Moral Bureaucracies: Objects, Values and Affects in a UK Asylum Office

open access: yesPoLAR: Political and Legal Anthropology Review, Volume 49, Issue 2, November 2026.
ABSTRACT British asylum bureaucracy carries a paradoxical mandate: To allocate humanitarian protection while operating inside a policy regime explicitly designed to deter. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in a Home Office decision‐making office, this article examines how that contradiction is materialized in mundane bureaucratic objects—a whiteboard ...

Evaluating the Impact of Clonidine and Midazolam Premedication on Emergence Delirium in Pediatric Patients

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, Volume 36, Issue 10, Page 1290-1307, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Preoperative anxiety is common in children and is associated with emergence delirium—a distressing postoperative complication characterized by agitation and disorientation. Midazolam has long been the drug of choice for preoperative anxiolysis.

Pro‐197 mutations confer resistance to thiencarbazone but not to foramsulfuron in ALS‐resistant Poa annua populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 10, Page 10134-10146, October 2026.
Foramsulfuron remains effective on Pro‐197 Poa annua, but co‐formulation with thiencarbazone reduces efficacy due to limited activity and antagonism. Therefore, foramsulfuron + thiencarbazone should be used in fields without ALS‐resistant weeds to ensure effective in‐crop control.

Domain‐Knowledge‑Guided Rule Extraction for Governing Nepheline Amount in High‑Level Waste Glasses

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, Volume 17, Issue 4, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Nepheline crystallization during canister centerline cooling is one of the most constraining factors limiting waste loading in high‐level waste (HLW) borosilicate glasses. Existing predictive models treat nepheline formation as a binary outcome, yet durability degradation depends continuously on nepheline fraction.

Spotlight on the Nucleotide: Solid‐State NMR for the Investigation of ATP Hydrolysis in the ATPase SmsC

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 34, 11 September 2026.
Nucleotide‐detected solid‐state NMR has been applied to probe nucleotide conformations and dynamics during ATP hydrolysis using the dimeric P‐loop ATPase SmsC as a model protein. The different stages of ATP hydrolysis have been mimicked by ATP analogues for which different degrees of conformational heterogeneity have been observed. ABSTRACT Solid‐state
