The accumulation of myeloid‐derived suppressor cells participates in abdominal infection‐induced tumor progression through the PD‐L1/PD‐1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores how sepsis affects GC progression by creating an immunosuppressive environment. Our findings reveal that sepsis promotes immune dysregulation, enhancing tumor growth and metastasis. Targeting the PD‐1/PD‐L1 pathway with monoclonal antibodies shows potential for restoring immune function and improving outcomes in cancer patients ...

Excited states in the twisted XXZ spin chain

open access: yes, 1999
We compute the finite size spectrum for the spin 1/2 XXZ chain with twisted boundary conditions, for anisotropy in the regime $0< \gamma

Robust acute myeloid leukemia engraftment in humanized scaffolds using injectable biomaterials and intravenous xenotransplantation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived xenografts (PDXs) can be improved by implantation of a humanized niche. We tested different biomaterials and approaches, and demonstrate that the combination of an injectable biomaterial for scaffold creation plus an intravenous route for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) xenotransplantation provide the most convenient and robust approach to

Seven Classes of Rotational Variables From a Study of 50,000 Spotted Stars with ASAS-SN, Gaia, and APOGEE [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We examine the properties of $\sim50,000$ rotational variables from the ASAS-SN survey using distances, stellar properties, and probes of binarity from $\textit{Gaia}$ DR3 and the SDSS APOGEE survey. They have high amplitudes and span a broader period range than previously studied $\textit{Kepler}$ rotators.

Structural volumetric and Periodic Table DTI patterns in Complex Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus—Toward the principles of a translational taxonomy

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience
IntroductionWe previously proposed a novel taxonomic framework to describe the diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) profiles of white matter tracts by their diffusivity and neural properties.

Cation order control of correlations in double perovskite Sr_{2}VNbO_{6}

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
Double perovskites extend the design space for new materials and they often host phenomena that do not exist in their parent perovskite compounds. Here we present a detailed first-principles study of the correlated double perovskite Sr_{2}VNbO_{6}, where

Targeted metabolomics reveals novel diagnostic biomarkers for colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed targeted metabolomic profiling to identify 302 distinct metabolites present in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), revealing aberrant metabolic profiles amongst individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). Compared to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 19‐9 (CA199), our metabolite panel showed improved sensitivity ...

Q fever outbreak in the terraced vineyards of Lavaux, Switzerland

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, EarlyView., 2014
Abstract Coxiella burnetii infection (Q fever) is a widespread zoonosis with low endemicity in Switzerland, therefore no mandatory public report was required. A cluster of initially ten human cases of acute Q fever infections characterized by prolonged fever, asthenia and mild hepatitis occurred in 2012 in the terraced vineyard of Lavaux ...

Periodic Modulation : Newly emergent emission behaviour in Pulsars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Periodic modulations are seen in normal period pulsars ($P >$ 0.1 sec) over timescales ranging from a few seconds to several minutes. Such modulations have usually been associated with the phenomenon of subpulse drifting. A number of recent studies have shown subpulse drifting to exhibit very specific physical characteristics : i) drifting is seen only

New group of stable icosahedral quasicrystals: structural properties and formation conditions

open access: yes, 2003
Structural studies on the icosahedral quasicrystals in Zn-Mg-Sc, Cu-Ga-Mg-Sc, and Zn-Mg-Ti alloys as well as their corresponding 1/1 cubic approximants, have revealed that these quasicrystals belong to a new structural group similar to Cd-based ...
