1993Underlying the apparent behaviour of a group, there is a rich tapestry of needs, motivations, interconnecting relationships and feelings about the group itself. Every group is unique and evolves in its own special way — depending on the individual members, the situation, and the events which occur in the group itself.

Drama, as well as training or therapy, may be employed as a useful research and practice paradigm in working with small groups. In this context, groups may represent a form of "collective art" in Fromm's sense, and stages or forms of idiosyncratic group processes may parallel the unfolding of dramatic perfor mances.

Supervisors stressing work output had groups with lower production than supervisors who were more group oriented and cared for subordinates' needs and welfare.
