Autonomous Multi‐Objective Nanoscale Characterization of Combinatorial (Al, Sc, B)N Films Reveals Composition‐Dependent Ferroelectric Regimes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Autonomous scanning probe microscopy and multi‐objective Bayesian optimization navigate a ternary (Al,Sc,B)N combinatorial library. Registered photoluminescence, electron‐probe compositional mapping, and X‐ray diffraction connect local electromechanical function to defect‐sensitive emission, composition, and crystal structure.

High-strength aluminum-based composites reinforced with BN, AlB2 and AlN particles fabricated via reactive spark plasma sintering of Al-BN powder mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Light (density 350 MPa) metal matrix composites (MMCs) are highly anticipated for aerospace and automotive industries. The MMCs application fields can be significantly expanded if they possess enhanced strength at elevated temperatures also.

Microfluidic Nano‐Assembly of Red‐Blood‐Cell (RBC) Lipids and Components for Engineering Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered red blood cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (eRBCEVs) are synthesized via controlled microfluidic assembly from native RBC lipids, enabling tunable encapsulation of proteins, nucleic acids, nanoparticles, and viral vectors. The platform demonstrates reproducible nanoscale architecture, preserved membrane composition, and functional cargo ...

A New Type of Radical-Pair-Based Model for Magnetoreception [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Certain migratory birds can sense the earth's magnetic field. The nature of this process is not yet properly understood. Here we offer a simple explanation according to which birds literally `see' the local magnetic field: Our model relates the well ...

Angstrom‐Scale Confined Ion Sieve and Accelerator for Efficient Aqueous Zinc Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An angstrom‐scale confined ion accelerator strategy is proposed for ultra‐stable aqueous Zn anodes. Selective and precise transport of hydrated Zn(H2O)62+, Zn2+ cations, H2O molecules, and SO42− anions is achieved by in‐plane atomic Ti vacancies and angstrom‐scale interlayer free spacing within the Ti0.87O2 interfacial layer, leading to homogeneous Zn ...
