Improvement of Sickle Cell Disease Care Mitigates the Healthcare Utilization Induced by Increased Prevalence: Experience of a Tertiary Pediatric Center

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) has undergone major changes in the last decades. Its prevalence has been steadily increasing and numerous advances have been made in the management of the disease. However, the effect in real‐life setting of these major changes is unknown, particularly in a Canadian environment. Procedure We aimed to assess

Crop specific requirement of growing degree days and agrometeorological indices in rice growing zones

open access: yesMAUSAM, 2010
The spatial and temporal distributions of heat unit and various agrometeorological indices for the rice crop, are studied in this paper. Eight ET – stations were selected from six rice growing zones, viz., Canning (in lower Gangetic plains), Bikramganj and Varanasi (in middle Gangetic plains), Ludhiana (in trans Gangetic plains), Ranchi, Shymakhunta ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Determination of Optimum Growing Degree-Days (GDD) Range Before Winter for Wheat Cultivars with Different Growth Characteristics in North China Plain

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2012
To provide base for adjusting the sowing date, achieving the yield potential of wheat cultivars with different growth characteristics, and improving the utilization rate of natural resource in the North China Plain (NCP), a 4-yr field experiment of ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Validation of degree day based forewarning model of mustard aphid in Bundelkhand agro-climatic zone of Madhya Pradesh

open access: yesJournal of Agrometeorology, 2012
To validate the temperature based aphid forewarning model of Chakravarty and Gautam (2002), data on aphid population were collected from mustard crop grown on farmer’s field during two rabi seasons of 2009-10 and 2010-11 in Tikamgarh district of ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Predicting Floral Bud Progression for Three Peach Cultivars

open access: yesAgronomy
The prediction of floral bud progression in commercial peach cultivars promotes knowledge about the adaptability of cultivars to the climatic conditions in a specific location under a climatic variability context.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
