Phase separation in polymer solutions. I. Liquid-liquid phase separation of PPO poly (2, 6-dimethyl 1, 4-phenylene oxide) in binary mixtures with toluene and ternary mixtures with toluene and ethyl alcohol [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
In the system poly(2, 6-dimethy1-1, 4-phenylene oxide) (PPO)-toluene three phase separation lines can be detected: the melting point curve, the cloud point curve, and the spinodial.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

FO-DEMST: Optimized Multi-Scale Transformer with Dual-Encoder Architecture for Feeding Amount Prediction in Sea Bass Aquaculture

open access: yesJournal of Sensor and Actuator Networks
Traditional methods for predicting feeding amounts rely on historical data and experience but fail to account for non-linear fish growth and the influence of water quality and meteorological factors.

Identification of an anaerobic bacterial consortium that degrades roxarsone

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, 2020
The degradation of roxarsone, an extensively used organoarsenic feed additive, occurs quickly under anaerobic conditions with microorganisms playing an important role in its degradation.

Slow crack growth in polycarbonate films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We study experimentally the slow growth of a single crack in polycarbonate films submitted to uniaxial and constant imposed stress. The specificity of fracture in polycarbonate films is the appearance of flame shaped macroscopic process zones at the tips

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Method for the estimation of antibacterial activity of the polyfunctional protein from transferrin family in the experimental model of the kinetics of Staphylococcus aureus development

open access: yesЖурнал микробиологии, эпидемиологии и иммунобиологии, 2022
Introduction. Lactoferrin is a cationic monomeric glycoprotein produced by acinar cells and glands, present in different places of the mucous membrane in different concentrations.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Hypothesized, Directly-Coded Curve Shapes in Growth Curve Analysis: An Example

open access: yesJournal of Methods and Measurement in the Social Sciences, 2012
Growth curve analysis provides important informational benefits regarding intervention outcomes over time. Rarely, however, should outcome trajectories be assumed to be linear.
