Deazapurines as growth inhibitors

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1957
Summary 1. Deazaadenine (7-amino-1-imidazo( b )pyridine) inhibits the of Tetrahymena pyriformis W. This inhibition is antagonized by ? The half-maximal inhibition index is 6. 2. In glucose-containing medium, not only is there growth inhibitory but complete cytolysis occurs as the concentration of the inhibitory creases.

Fibroblast Growth Factors and Their Inhibitors

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2000
Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are members of a family of polypeptides synthesized by a variety of cell types during the processes of embryonic development and in adult tissues. FGFs have been detected in normal and malignant cells and show a biological profile that includes mitogenic and angiogenic activity with a consequent crucial role in cell ...

Protein Inhibitors of Crystal Growth

Journal of Urology, 1989
Nephrocalcin is a urinary glycopeptide that may be a physiological inhibitor of nephrolithiasis. Monomeric nephrocalcin purified from ethylenediaminetetracetic acid-treated urine is 14,000 daltons. Compositional analyses indicate that nephrocalcin is 10 per cent carbohydrate by weight and that 25 per cent of the amino acid residues are acidic (glutamic

Cinnamylphenols as inhibitors of fungal growth

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1972
Cinnamylpyrogallol was found to be a greater inhibitor of fungal growth than either cinnamyl alcohol or pyrogallol. Antifungal activity decreased with time owing to oxidation of the compound in solution. Cinnamylphloroglucinol was less active than cinnamylpyrogallol against the 27 species of fungi (including dermatophytes) tested.

Encelin: A Fungal Growth Inhibitor

Planta Medica, 1995
A known sesquiterpene lactone, encelin, isolated from the Mexican species Montanoa speciosa (Compositae), was assayed for biocidal activity on fungal cells of Mucor rouxii. The results indicate that encelin has a determining action on growth and the morphogenetic process of fungal cells.

Growth, Metabolism, and Growth Inhibitors of Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Tissue Engineering Part A, 2009
Most therapeutic applications of bone marrow stromal cells (MSCs), or mesenchymal stem cells, require expansion of these cells. This study aimed to obtain more information about human MSCs regarding their expansion characteristics: growth, metabolism, and growth inhibitors.

Inhibitors of growth factor signalling

Endocrine-Related Cancer, 2005
The therapeutic utility of trastuzumab (‘Herceptin’) in breast cancer patients with tumours that overexpress erbB2 established the principle that targeted inhibition of specific signal transduction pathways can provide a new approach to cancer treatment.

Growth Factors and Growth Factor Inhibitors

1997
This chapter will outline novel treatment strategies predicated on the modulation of growth factor or cytokine-mediated signal transduction pathways. Several excellent recent monographs have addressed this tissue from the point of view of inhibitors of individual pathway constituents (1,2).The current focus will be on defining the pathways potentially ...

Pentapeptide Growth Inhibitors

1990
The hemoregulatory peptide and the epidermal pentapeptide are small oligopeptides (molecular weight around 500–600) involved in the regulation of proliferation in their respective tissues in vitro and in vivo. The identification of these peptides was achieved after a 20–year-long search for specific endogenous feedback inhibitors of proliferation ...
