Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Yield Comparison of Sesame Cultivars and Their Physiological Growth Indices Under Chemical and Biological Potassium Fertilizer Applications [PDF]

open access: yesIkufīziyuluzhī-i Giyāhān-i Zirā̒ī, 2018
To compare the yield and physiological growth indices of three Iranian sesame cultivars under the application of chemical and biological potassium fertilizers a pot experiment was conducted in the summer of 2015 in greenhouse. This study was performed as

Fabrication, properties and application of Ge-on-GaAs thin nanoheterogeneous films

open access: yesTekhnologiya i Konstruirovanie v Elektronnoi Apparature, 2014
Ge thin films condensation in vacuum onto semiinsulating GaAs(100) substrates was investigated. The methods of atomic-force microscopy, optical spectroscopy, measurement of intrinsic mechanical stresses in film, and electronic properties were used for ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Growth rate and heterozygosity in the plaice, Pleuronectes platessa

open access: yes, 1986
Samples of young plaice were examined to see if there was any relationship between growth rate and individual heterozygosity, screened across five polymorphic enzyme loci (Pgm-1, Ada, Mdh-2, Pgi-2, Gpdh-l).

A Solid Waste Pond Tiger Shrimp (Peneaus monodon) as Fertilizer for Caulerpa lentillifera

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Life Science, 2017
Farming the shrimp, fish and another commodity could produce large quantities of waste. Aquaculture waste can be formed as feces, residual feed and dead organism which are accumulated in a cultivation area.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
