A bristle‐nosed Jurassic ray‐finned fish (Actinopterygii) bears true dermal odontodes on its snout

Teeth show extreme diversity, including tooth‐like dermal odontodes or “skin teeth” in many extant fishes. We describe the anatomy of enlarged tubercles on the snout of Redfieldius, an extinct early Jurassic fish. We found that the tubercles in Redfieldius are dermal odontodes that evolved independently from those of living species. Abstract Comparison

Tropical farmers try to adapt calf‐rearing systems to temperate dairy industry standards. Calves in tick‐infested areas develop stronger immunity to TBD under controlled exposure to ticks. Early tick exposure promotes sustainable management, balancing tick infestation and developing TBD immunity.

Summary Traits modulate species' ability to track shifts in climate, yet the extent to which traits have been shaped by the contemporary environment and/or historical processes remains poorly understood. Summary Sphagnum mosses regulate peatland carbon storage, hydrology, nutrient cycling, and ecosystem functioning. However, the links among their surface chemistry, photosynthesis, responses to submersion and pH remain poorly understood.
