Assimilation of All‐Sky TROPICS Constellation Radiance Data in the NASA Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS)

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract This study examines the impact of assimilating all‐sky microwave radiances from the Time‐Resolved Observations of Precipitation structure and storm Intensity with a Constellation of Smallsats (TROPICS) mission within the NASA Global Earth Observing System (GEOS) data assimilation and forecasting framework based on the Gridpoint Statistical ...

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum AS21 Attenuates Sex‐Biased Glucose Intolerance in Aging Mice via Gut Mucosal Microbiota‐Derived Citrulline

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 8, August 2026.
Aging induces sex‐differential glucose intolerance, with male‐specific citrulline depletion. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum AS21 elevates microbiota‐derived citrulline metabolism and enhances GLP‐1 secretion, improving glucose homeostasis. ABSTRACT Aging‐related metabolic decline, particularly impaired glucose tolerance, represents a growing challenge ...

Natural and Anthropogenic Drivers of Genomic Diversity in the California Towhee: Conservation Implications for Peripheral Populations

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Demographic, geographic, and environmental factors such as effective population size, isolation, and habitat availability interact to shape contemporary levels of population genomic diversity. Such factors must be carefully evaluated and contextualized at both the intraspecific and interspecific levels when assessing the conservation status of

Neuregulin 4‐dependent MAPK amplification mediates urate‐induced β‐cell dysfunction

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 17, Issue 8, Page 1257-1267, August 2026.
Hyperuricemia impairs glucose homeostasis by inducing pancreatic β‐cell apoptosis without insulin resistance. In male Uox‐KO mice, urate upregulates Nrg4, which amplifies MAPK signaling and drives β‐cell death. Thus, hyperuricemia disrupts glucose metabolism via the Nrg4‐MAPK axis.

Formation process of the gravel‐dominated deposit from the 2011 Tohoku‐oki tsunami in Ofunato, northeastern Japan, inferred by integrating sedimentology and tsunami modelling

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 5, Page 1378-1402, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Tsunami deposits serve as geological records of past events and are essential for understanding the occurrence and dynamics of tsunamis. However, conventional research has largely focused on sandy and boulder deposits, leaving gravel‐dominated tsunami deposits comparatively underexplored; furthermore, their characteristics and formation ...

Tsunami Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances Triggered by the 29 July 2025 Mw 8.8 Kamchatka Earthquake Observed in Japan and Taiwan

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract The 29 July 2025 Mw 8.8 Kamchatka earthquake generated notable seismic and tsunami waves. The total electron content (TEC) derived by more than 1,400 ground‐based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiving stations in Japan and Taiwan is employed to examine the spatiotemporal evolution of seismic‐ and tsunami‐traveling ionospheric ...
