Abstract We compared the acute and chronic effects of postexercise cold water immersion (CWI) and active recovery (ACT) on oxidative stress, redox‐related gene expression, mitochondrial adaptations and muscle oxidative capacity. In a crossover study, nine males completed strength sessions, followed by either 10 min CWI or ACT.

Traditional predictors of conditioning have included level of anxiety and degree of extraversion. Measures of responsiveness in the peripheral modality to be conditioned have also been demonstrated to predict conditioning performance.

Far‐infrared sauna exposure at 65°C elevates core temperature
Abstract Far‐infrared (FIR) saunas are increasingly used as a passive heating and ‘wellness’ modality, yet their capacity to elevate core temperature remains unclear, particularly given prior work at lower temperatures (∼45°C) reports limited net heat storage.

Taxonomic assignments of microorganisms have long been hindered by inconsistent nomenclature and annotation issues in existing databases like SILVA, Greengenes, Greengenes2, Genome Taxonomy Database, or Ribosomal Database Project. To overcome these issues, we created Greengenes-SILVA-RDP database (GSR-DB), accurate and comprehensive taxonomic ...

GSR Analysis: The Importance of Viable Swab Kits [PDF]
Since the late 1970s, forensic scientists have been using scanning electron microscopy to analyze gunshot residue particles to determine whether an individual or object was in the vicinity of a shooting.

On the Viability of GSR As Evidence From Flies and their Pupae
: In this experiment, the viability of gunshot residue (GSR) was examined. This was done through the very rarely researched intersection of forensic firearms analysis and forensic entomology. The question being resolved is if GSR can reliably be detected

Abstract figure legend The genetic inactivation of one Mcu allele leads to sex‐specific changes in neuronal function in adult mice, that is, the firing of action potentials and the relationship between cytosolic and mitochondrial Ca2+ levels. The ability to produce NAD(P)H by stimulated neural tissue is largely preserved in male mice but delayed in ...

Abstract figure legend Three weeks of overtraining in trained endurance athletes reduced exercise performance without impairing glucose tolerance. In skeletal muscle, overtraining was associated with increased expression of lipid metabolism‐related proteins, enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis and preserved insulin signalling, despite elevated oxidative ...
