Avaliação da Poluição Antrópica Usando Padrão de Distribuição deEspécies de Foraminíferos Provenientes de Testemunhos da Baía de Guanabara, RJ. [PDF]

open access: yesAnuário do Instituto de Geociências, 2007
This work presents a study of benthic foraminifera recovered from three cores collected near the Paquetá island, in the Guanabara bay, Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil. The cores have different sizes and were subsampled in centimetric intervals.

Skin and stinger bacterial communities in two critically endangered rays from the South Atlantic in natural and aquarium settings. [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiologyopen, 2020
This article focused on the bacterial communities in two poorly studied and endangered ray species from the southern Atlantic: the butterfly ray (Gymnura altavela) and the groovebelly ray (Dasyatis hypostigma). This is the first study to describe the bacterial community associated with these species in natural environments and aquariums.

Trophic interactions and metal transfer in marine ecosystems driven by the Peruvian scallop Argopecten purpuratus aquaculture

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 53, Issue 2, Page 452-474, April 2022., 2022
Abstract This study investigates the trophic interactions and As and Cd transfer along seven marine ecosystems in Peru. Five of these ecosystems are driven by aquaculture of the Peruvian scallop Argopecten purpuratus. A southward increased gradient of δ15N was observed among the three examined regions along the Peruvian coast.

Mercury enrichment in anthrosols and adjacent coastal sediments at a Classic Maya site, Marco Gonzalez, Belize

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 36, Issue 6, Page 875-896, November/December 2021., 2021
Abstract Elevated concentrations of total mercury (THg) are found in the surface soils and flanking wetland sediments at the Classic Maya coastal site of Marco Gonzalez, Belize. Significant concentrations (up to 1.3 µg·g−1 dry mass) of THg occur in leaf litter‐rich soils, as well as in the artefact‐rich anthrosol spread over the vegetated mound site of

Contribution of Biological Effects to Carbonate‐System Variations and the Air–Water CO2 Flux in Urbanized Bays in Japan

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 126, Issue 6, June 2021., 2021
Abstract We evaluated the contribution of net biological effects (photosynthesis + respiration + decomposition) to the carbonate parameters and air–water CO2 fluxes in Tokyo Bay, Ise Bay, and Osaka Bay in Japan. The carbonate parameters (fugacity of CO2, total alkalinity, and dissolved inorganic carbon) were measured mainly by cargo ships traveling ...

Fine‐Tuning the “Right to Rio de Janeiro” from Above and Below: The City Statute in Pre‐Olympics Rio de Janeiro

open access: yesCity &Society, Volume 33, Issue 1, Page 91-117, April 2021., 2021
Abstract Brazil’s City Statute enshrines the “right to the city” and the “social function of property” in its constitution. Brazilian scholars, however, identify barriers to achieving the law’s agenda. Broader debates regarding the right to the city suggest the concept has been overextended beyond meaning, and that formalization of the right to the ...

Interweaving the Fabric of Urban Infrastructure: Senegalese City‐making in Rio de Janeiro

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Volume 45, Issue 1, Page 133-149, January 2021., 2021
Abstract This article reveals how newcomers weave their own threads into the fabric of urban infrastructure. Entangling their own with other urban assemblages, newcomers generate multi‐layered dynamics situationally in order to render possible the lives to which they aspire.
