AbstractWe consider the guarded fragment of first-order logic together with its k-variable subfragments. Using the technique of resolution theorem proving, we show that the satisfiability problem for the guarded fragment is in 2-ExpTime, falling to ExpTime if the number of variables is bounded.

Soft errors are a reliability threat for reconfigurable systems implemented with SRAM-based FPGAs. They can be handled through fault tolerance techniques like scrubbing and modular redundancy. However, selecting these techniques statically at design or compile time tends to be pessimistic and prohibits optimal adaptation to changing soft error rate at ...

Guarded Microvitreoretinal Blade
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1996During vitreoretinal surgery, the microvitreoretinal blade may be misdirected and injure operating room personnel. A sheated, retractable blade has been developed to reduce the likelihood of such injuries. In the blade's retracted position, a safety feature prevents inadvertent exposure of the sharp blade.
