An optimized transformation protocol for Anthoceros agrestis and three more hornwort species [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 114, Issue 3, Page 699-718, May 2023., 2023
SUMMARY Land plants comprise two large monophyletic lineages, the vascular plants and the bryophytes, which diverged from their most recent common ancestor approximately 480 million years ago. Of the three lineages of bryophytes, only the mosses and the liverworts are systematically investigated, while the hornworts are understudied.

Semi‐automated workflow for high‐throughput Agrobacterium‐mediated plant transformation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 122, Issue 1, April 2025.
Significance Statement A simplified and optimized pipeline for Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated transformation of plants. Useful for obtaining stable transgenic lines of the model liverwort Marchantia polymorpha, or for transient expression in Nicotiana benthamiana.

“Nos e fidju la di gueto, nos e fidju di imigranti, fidju di Kabu Verdi”: estética, antirracismo e engajamentos no rap crioulo em Portugal

open access: yesSociedade E Estado, 2021

Building beauty: Understanding how hormone signaling regulates petal patterning and morphogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 121, Issue 6, March 2025.
SUMMARY The corolla of flowering plants provides pivotal functions for the reproduction of angiosperms, directly impacting the fitness of individuals. Different petal shapes and patterns contribute to these functions and, thus, participate in the production of morphological diversity and the emergence of new species.

Optogenetic control of transgene expression in Marchantia polymorpha [PDF]

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 13, Issue 4, July-August 2025.
Abstract Premise The model liverwort Marchantia polymorpha is an emerging testbed species for plant metabolic engineering but lacks well‐characterized inducible promoters, which are necessary to minimize biochemical and physiological disruption when over‐accumulating target products.

CIPK‐B is essential for salt stress signalling in Marchantia polymorpha [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 237, Issue 6, Page 2210-2223, March 2023., 2023
Summary Calcium signalling is central to many plant processes, with families of calcium decoder proteins having expanded across the green lineage and redundancy existing between decoders. The liverwort Marchantia polymorpha has fast become a new model plant, but the calcium decoders that exist in this species remain unclear.

Effects of light on chloroplast translation in Marchantia polymorpha are similar to those in angiosperms and are not influenced by light‐independent chlorophyll synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 123, Issue 5, September 2025.
SUMMARY Translation of the chloroplast psbA mRNA in angiosperms is activated by photodamage of its gene product, the D1 subunit of photosystem II (PSII), providing nascent D1 for PSII repair. The involvement of chlorophyll in the regulatory mechanism has been suggested due to the regulatory roles of proteins proposed to mediate chlorophyll/D1 ...
