Phylogenetic and Functional Originality Shape Species Positions in Flea–Mammal Networks Across Biogeographic Realms

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
The relationship between the position of a flea species in the networks and its functional originality was found to be consistently positive in all realms, independently of which originality index was used. ABSTRACT We investigated the relationships between a species’ network position (measured as the combined normalized degree, species strength, and ...

The Earliest Feathers from the Lower Cretaceous Dabeigou Formation of North Hebei: Implications for the Early Evolution of the Jehol Biota

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This study reports two isolated feather fossils from the Lower Cretaceous Dabeigou Formation in northeastern China. Morphological analyses identified them as the earliest known feathered theropods (potentially including avian) in the Jehol Biota. This finding reveals a complex ecosystem at the dawn of the Jehol Biota, bridging the temporal and faunal ...

Using a Generic Blend of Pheromones to Simultaneously Attract a Diversity of Elaterid Beetle Species Native to Eastern North America

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We assessed attraction of eight elaterid species to a “generic” pheromone blend containing their eight known pheromones or sex attractants. All eight species were attracted by their specific attractants, as expected. Six species were attracted to the blend, but the remaining two species were strongly inhibited by unknown blend components.

Guide-Vane Closing Schemes for Pump-Turbines Based on Transient Characteristics in S-shaped Region

open access: yes, 2016
During the transitional processes of load rejection in a pumped-storage station, the S-shaped characteristics of the pump-turbines can result in relatively large water-hammer and pulsating pressures.

Exploration speed in Red Knots affects spring migration timing, but only after experimentally constrained fuelling conditions

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
Individual variation in avian migration timing is still poorly understood, yet recent evidence shows that it is closely linked to personality traits and may also be affected by food availability. Here, we examined how the interaction of the personality trait exploration speed and food availability affected the departure timing of Red Knots Calidris ...

Simulation and Test for Two Airfoils with Wind Guide Vane of VAWT

open access: yes, 2010
Two airfoils of vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) were designed, and the wind guide vane was added for VAWT. By using Fluent and the environment wind tunnel, some results were simulated and tested for two different types of airfoils and its wind guide ...

Environmental drivers influencing the ambrosia beetle community: The primary role of geographic and climatic drivers in chestnut‐growing areas

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 28, Issue 4, Page 575-587, November 2026.
Ethanol‐baited traps were placed in cultivated chestnut orchards (a) and mixed environments with assorted tree composition (b), over a 2‐year monitoring period in two valleys (NW Italy). A total of 118,286 ambrosia beetles was collected, representing six species.

Numerical Study About the Change in Flow Separation and Velocity Distribution in a 90° Pipe Bend with/without Guide Vane Conditions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2017
A single phase, incompressible turbulent flow through a 90º pipe bend with/without guide vane conditions has been studied here. The present work deals with the numerical simulation to investigate the change in flow separation and velocity ...
