Numerical Investigation in the Vaned Distributor under Different Guide Vanes Openings of a Pump Turbine in Pump Mode

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2016
The performance of a pump turbine in pump mode is of great importance to a pumped storage power plant. In order to obtain the pump characteristics of a pump turbine, 3D steady simulations were carried out by solving rans using different two-equation turbulence models.

Mitigation of the Pressure Pulsations in an Axial Turbine at Speed-No-Load With Independent Guide Vanes Opening

open access: yesJournal of Fluids Engineering, 2023
Abstract Hydraulic turbines are operated more frequently at no-load conditions, also known as speed-no-load (SNL), to provide a spinning reserve that can rapidly connect to the electrical grid. As intermittent energy sources gain popularity, turbines will be required to provide spinning reserves more frequently.

Impact of a Guide Vane clearance Gap in a Francis turbine flow; a comparison between experimental and computational Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The problem of the leakage flow between Guide Vane and the covering plate due to erosion is a strong source of inefficiency. To investigate this issue the TU university of Wien built a model, testing it at several configurations of Gap span and closing ...

A 1D-3D Coupling Model to Evaluate Hydropower Generation System Stability

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
This paper proposes a novel 1D-3D approach for the stability characteristics of the hydropower generation system (HGS) in transition processes. First, a 1D-3D coupling model was established for the HGS in the load-reduction process. Second, a sensitivity

The influence of guide vane opening on internal cavitation of Francis turbine

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series
Abstract In response to the theme of national multi energy complementary power grid construction, hydropower stations need to frequently change the opening of active guide vanes. Operation deviates from the rated working condition. And output is adjusted to meet the flexible power demand of users.

Assessment of guide vane self-excitation stability at small openings in pump flow

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2012
A parameter study of self-excited pump turbine guide vane instability at small openings using a combined CFD-1DOF approach shows that clear tendencies are difficult to obtain. Two types of boundary conditions can be used in the simulations: prescribed mass flow and prescribed pressure.
