Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune acute peripheral neuropathy. Frequently a flu-like episode or a gastroenteritis precede GBS, and the cross-reactivity between microbial and neural antigens partly explains the pathophysiology of the disease and the possible detection of antiganglioside antibodies.
