Crop coefficients of tropical forage crops, single cropped and overseeded with black oat and ryegrass

open access: yesScientia Agricola
: Crop coefficient (Kc) is the ratio between crop evapotranspiration (ETc) and reference evapotranspiration (ETo), representing the phenological effects on crop water consumption. Kc is fundamental to estimating ETc by agrometeorological methods.

Soil wetting and drying processes influence stone artefact distribution in clay‐rich soils: A case study from Middle Gidley Island in Murujuga, northwest Western Australia

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Soils that contain swelling clay minerals (e.g., montmorillonite) expand and contract during wetting and drying, causing movement within the soil profile. This process, known as argilliturbation, can alter artefact distributions, destroy stratigraphy and complicate the interpretation of archaeological deposits.

Phytoremediation by Guinea grass (Panicum maximum): A Focused Review

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Range and Forage Science, 2023
Environmental contamination from heavy metals has grown to be a significant problem on a global basis. Due to the mobilisation of heavy metals during ore extraction and subsequent processing for diverse applications, they have been dispersed into the environment.

Integrated systems improve the sustainability of soybean cultivation in the tropical region

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2023
Inter-cropping between annual crops with tropical forages through integration crop-livestock systems (ICL) is considered a sustainable option to increase crop diversity and soybean productivity.

Efecto de la composición de la dieta sobre el desarrollo del mosquito de inundación Ochlerotatus (Ochletotatus) albifasciatus (Macquart) (Diptera: Culicidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
One important step for the colonization of Ochlerotatus albifasciatus (Macquart) is to determine the optimal conditions for larval rearing, which makes possible the development of experiments comprising larval rearing in the laboratory.

Influence of supplementing Guinea grass with differently processed African yam bean on gas production and in vitro digestibility

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2020
This study evaluated the potential utilisation of African yam bean (AYB) seed as a supplement to Guinea grass on in vitro gas and methane (CH4) production, as well as the effect of processing on AYB nutritive value.

Anatomical and functional mapping of vagal nociceptive sensory nerve subsets innervating the mouse lower airways by intersectional genetics

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend We used an intersectional approach with recombinase‐expressing mice and adeno‐associated virus to map and modulate distinct nociceptive afferents in the vagal ganglia. TRPV1+P2X2+ neurons resided in the nodose ganglion (N), innervated the lungs (many projected into the alveoli) but not the trachea, and projected to the nucleus ...

Recent Replacement of Native Pili Grass (Heteropogon contortus) by Invasive African Grasses in the Hawaiian Islands [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We surveyed 41 sites from throughout O'ahu that had been dominated by native pili grass (Heteropogon contortus) in the late 1960s. Pili grass was absent from 14 (35%) of those sites in 1997 and had declined in abundance in most of the 27 remaining ...
