The guinea-pig is not a rodent

Nature, 1996
In 1991 Graur et al. raised the question of whether the guinea-pig, Cavia porcellus, is a rodent. They suggested that the guinea-pig and myomorph rodents diverged before the separation between myomorph rodents and a lineage leading to primates and artiodactyls.

Mastitis in Guinea Pigs

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1970
SUMMARY Mastitis was observed in 2 guinea pigs from a colony. High leukocyte counts on milk samples were indicative of mammary irritation. Microscopically, there were wide variations in the inflammatory processes characterized by acute to subacute inflammatory changes in the lobules. An organism with the characteristics of α-hemolytic Streptococcus was

Response of Guinea Pigs to Intravaginal Inoculation with Guinea Pig Cytomegalovirus

Sexually Transmitted Diseases, 1989
Female guinea pigs were inoculated intravaginally with guinea pig cytomegalovirus (GPCMV) propagated either in guinea pig embryo fibroblast cultures (GPEF) or salivary glands. The incidence of infection was higher with GPEF virus. Rare instances of isolation of GPCMV from cervical swabs 9-48 hr after inoculation was attributed to survival of inoculum ...

GUINEA PIGS AND CARCINOGENS

Acta Pathologica Microbiologica Scandinavica Section A Pathology, 1970
The reaction of guinea pig skin to topical and subcutaneous administration of four carcinogens administered in different dosages to newborn and adult animals, has been investigated histologically and histochemically. The transplantability of the sarcomas produced, and the occurrence of spontaneous tumours in the strain used, was studied too. The guinea

Diseases of guinea-pigs

Veterinary Record, 1976
Information on diseases of guinea-pigs is generally available in research institutes and breeding establishments. When dealing with an individual patient it is tempting to extrapolate from this pool of information, without realising that a number of factors can affect the disease situation in a colony which need not apply to the individual animal kept ...

Oögenesis in the guinea-pig

Development, 1964
ABSTRACTEstimations were made of the numbers of germ cells in the guinea-pig ovary from embryonic stages to maturity. A volumetric method was used to estimate the numbers of oögonia and Oöcytes in animals aged 26 to 55 days p.c., while counts were made of the numbers of germ cells present between 60 days p.c. and 12 months p.p.
