Gait Analysis of Pak Biawak: A Necrobot Lizard Built using the Skeleton of an Asian Water Monitor (Varanus Salvator)

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Pak Biawak, a necrobot, embodies an unusual fusion of biology and robotics. Designed to repurpose natural structures after death, it challenges conventional boundaries between nature and engineering. Its movements are precise yet unsettling, raising questions about sustainability, ethics, and the untapped potential of biointegrated machines.

Primary productivity in the Gulf of California, calculated from the relationship between superficial irradiance and chlorophyll in the euphotic zone

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 1995
The vertical distribution of chlorophyll a in the Gulf of California during the spring of 1992 showed a subsurface maxima between 10 and 50 m of depth. The average surface chlorophyll concentration was 0.71 mg m–3.

Age- and length-at-maturity of female arrowtooth flounder (Atheresthes stomias) in the Gulf of Alaska [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Arrowtooth flounder (Atheresthes stomias) has had the highest abundance of any groundfish species in the Gulf of Alaska since the 1970s (Matarese et al., 2003; Turnock et al., 2005; Blood et al., 2007); however, commercial catches have been restricted ...

Hierarchical Summary Statistics Encoding Across Primary Visual and Posterior Parietal Cortices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that mouse V1 simultaneously encodes the ensemble mean and variance of motion, providing a robust summary‐statistic representation that persists despite single‐neuron variability. These signals propagate to PPC, where they are transformed into abstract category representations during decision making.

Seasonal variation in agar yield and quality of Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis (Bory) Dawson, Acleto et Foldvik, from the Gulf Of Califoria, Mexico

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 1999
Seasonal variation in agar from Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis (Bory) Dawson, Acleto et Foldvik from Bahía de las Ánimas was studied; samples were collected between August 1995 and May 1996. Minimum yield (81.6%) occurred in summer and maximum (15.37%) in

Feeding habits of the leopard grouper, Mycteroperca rosacea (Actinopterygii: Perciformes: Epinephelidae), in the central Gulf of California, BCS, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesActa Ichthyologica et Piscatoria, 2019
Background. The leopard grouper, Mycteroperca rosacea (Streets, 1877), is endemic to north-western Mexico and has high commercial value. Although facts of its basic biology are known, information on its trophic ecology, in particular, is scarce.

Conference on Gulf of California Planned

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1973
A Penrose Conference on The Implications of the Gulf of California Rift System for the Tectonics of Western North America, is being convened by Wilfred Elders and Shawn Biehler at Lake Arrowhead, in the San Bernardino Mountains of southern California, June 16–21, 1974.Discussion will focus on the transition from divergent to transform plate boundaries ...

Mechanical Overloading‐Induced Nanomineral Crystal Perturbation from the Osteochondral Interface: A Potential Initiator of Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Fish larvae from the Gulf of California

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2003
Taxonomic composition of fish larvae was analysed from 464 plankton samples obtained during 10 oceanographic surveys in the Gulf of California between 1984 and 1988. We identified 283 taxa: 173 species, 57 genera, and 53 families.

New array monitors seismic activity near the Gulf of California in Mexico [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The Gulf of California rift forms a geologically young and active plate boundary that links the San Andreas strike‐slip fault system in California to the oceanic spreading system of the East Pacific Rise.
