Gulf of Mexico Processes

Journal of Coastal Research, 2012
Abstract This contribution is part of the Gulf Regional Sediment Management Master Plan and serves as a broad overview of the general setting, geologic history, coastal processes, hydrodynamics, and sediment sources for the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The GOM is approximately 1,500,000 km2. The five U.S.

Hypoxia in the Gulf of Mexico

Journal of Environmental Quality, 2001
ABSTRACTSeasonally severe and persistent hypoxia, or low dissolved oxygen concentration, occurs on the inner‐ to mid‐Louisiana continental shelf to the west of the Mississippi River and Atchafalaya River deltas. The estimated areal extent of bottom dissolved oxygen concentration less than 2 mg L−1 during mid‐summer surveys of 1993–2000 reached as high ...

Margins of Gulf of Mexico

AAPG Bulletin, 1978
Preliminary results of a long-term program to investigate the tectonic history of the Gulf of Mexico principally through the use of multichannel seismic reflection methods indicate that knowledge of the deep part of the Gulf contributes significantly to understanding of the evolution of its continental margins.

The Northern Gulf of Mexico

2021
This chapter describes the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) region and the major issues facing this marine fisheries ecosystem, and presents some summary statistics related to the 90 indicators of ecosystem-based fisheries management (EBFM) criteria. The region contains high numbers of marine species comprising commercially and recreationally important ...

Mississippi Fan, Gulf of Mexico

1985
The Mississippi Fan is a Quaternary accumulation composed of more than seven elongated fanlobes. Isopach and structure maps show frequent shifting of these lobes. The Mississippi Canyon, formed by retrogressive slumping, connects to the youngest fanlobe. The upper fanlobe is characterized by a large, incised, partially infilled, leveed channel.
