Temporal patterns of snapping shrimp in two coral reef habitats within the Gulf of Papagayo, Costa Rica

open access: yes

Satellite observations of mesoscale eddies in the Gulfs of Tehuantepec and Papagayo (Eastern Tropical Pacific)

Deep-Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, 2004
SeaWiFS high-resolution ocean-color images and AVHRR sea-surface temperature were obtained for the period from November 1998 to March 1999. Generation of mesoscale eddies was observed for the region between the Gulf of Tehuantepec and the Gulf of Papagayo (Tropical Pacific Ocean).

Inertial wind path and sea surface temperature patterns near the Gulf of Tehuantepec and Gulf of Papagayo

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1988
During the northern hemisphere winter the surface atmospheric pressure on the Gulf of Mexico side of Central America is often higher than that on the Pacific side. The resultant southward pressure gradient drives strong southward winds through a gap in the Sierra Madre mountain range at the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
