Strong Proton‐Phonon Coupling Drives Fast Ion Transport in Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 9, 13 February 2026.
Experimental and computational phonon analysis of ABO3‐type proton conductor BaSnO3 shows that substitution on the B‐site with yttrium forms an imaginary phonon mode which is instrumental for the function as proton conductor. This overcompensates the adverse proton trapping effect of the yttrium.

Uncovering the Key Factors Influencing Phytochemical and Phytopharmacological Properties During Medicinal Plant Processing

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2026.
From farm to pharma, this review details the engineering of quality in medicinal plants through a science‐driven approach: it first elucidates how genetic and environmental factors inscribe the plant's phytochemical and phytopharmacological profile before harvest, and then dissects the postharvest techniques and technologies—chemical and thermal pre ...

Static Stretching Acutely Reduces the Ergogenic Effects of Caffeine on Sprint Performance but Not Maximal Ball Velocity in Football Players

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the independent and combined effects of caffeine and static stretching (SS) on maximal ball velocity and 30‐m sprint performance. Sixteen male amateur football players performed 30‐m sprint and an instep kicking ball velocity test under six conditions.

How Far Are Two Symmetric Matrices From Commuting? With an Application to Object Characterisation and Identification in Metal Detection

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 1914-1942, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Examining the extent to which measurements of rotation matrices are close to each other is challenging due measurement noise. To overcome this, data is typically smoothed, and the Riemannian and Euclidean metrics are applied. However, if rotation matrices are not directly measured and are instead formed by eigenvectors of measured symmetric ...

Shades of empire: Evidence from Swedish and Polish–Lithuanian partitions in the Baltics

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, Volume 79, Issue 1, Page 342-376, February 2026.
Abstract In this study, we explore the long‐run effects of Swedish and Polish–Lithuanian imperial legacies in the Baltic region. Using a robust regression discontinuity design, we identify persistent differences in socio‐economic development across the South Livonia–Courland and the South Livonia–Lettgallia borders that emerged as a result of the ...

Sampling the volcanic plumes at Io: Impact speeds and shock conditions

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 61, Issue 2, Page 241-271, February 2026.
Abstract The desire to sample material from the interior of Io, by flying through its volcanic plumes, requires consideration of the flyby speed and the types of sample collection techniques that can be utilized. Low speed collection (1–2.5 km s−1) would require an orbit around Io itself, which is unlikely due to the accumulated radiation dose that ...
