Modeling Concept Combinations in a Quantum-theoretic Framework

open access: yes, 2014
We present modeling for conceptual combinations which uses the mathematical formalism of quantum theory. Our model faithfully describes a large amount of experimental data collected by different scholars on concept conjunctions and disjunctions ...

Concerted Cultivation in Canada: Class‐Based Approaches to Parenting

open access: yesCanadian Review of Sociology/Revue canadienne de sociologie, Volume 63, Issue 2, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The literature on concerted cultivation describes how higher‐class parents reproduce their social class standing in their children by engaging in ‘cultivating’ parenting practices. I use Latent Class Analysis and multinomial logistic regression applied to survey data from Canada to inductively uncover distinct approaches to parenting and then ...

Changing Patterns of Gender Representation in Canada's Technology Sector and the Care Economy: Two Differing Tales

open access: yesCanadian Review of Sociology/Revue canadienne de sociologie, Volume 63, Issue 2, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Gender segregation is a persistent form of labour market inequality, though patterns differ across time and economic sectors. Focusing on the care economy and the technology sector, we examine longitudinal trends in gender distributions for educational credentials and occupational participation.

The MC1R gene in the guppy (Poecilia reticulata): Genotypic and phenotypic polymorphisms

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2011
Background The guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is an important model organism for studying sexual selection; male guppies have complex and conspicuous pigmentation, and female guppies exhibit preferences for males with specific color spots. Understanding the

A chromosome‐scale genome assembly of Hordeum erectifolium: genomic, transcriptomic and anatomical adaptations to drought in a wild barley relative

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 4, Page 2652-2669, May 2026.
Summary Wild crop relatives are valuable genetic resources for improving stress adaptation in cultivated species, but their effective use depends on high‐quality reference genomes integrated with phenotypic and molecular datasets. Hordeum erectifolium, a wild relative of barley (H.

Haploid Mutation Mapping Identifies a Homoeologous Non‐Reciprocal Translocation Linked to Reduced Fibre and Enhanced Protein in Brassica napus

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, Page 3219-3243, May 2026.
ABSTRACT A key challenge for the genetic improvement of canola (Brassica napus), one of the world's most important oilseeds, is the limited natural variation for commercially important traits. The creation of new variation is hindered by the lack of functional knowledge about genes controlling these traits.

Endophytic Biostimulant Pyrroloquinoline Quinone Enhances Banana Growth and Primes Immunity Against Fusarium Wilt

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 178, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is a redox cofactor derived from prokaryotes that participates in various biological processes involving dehydrogenase enzymes. Previous field trials identified a PQQ‐producing endophyte, Burkholderia seminalis 869T2, which enhances banana growth and reduces Fusarium wilt incidence from 24.5% to 3.4%.

Salvia connivens Methanolic Extract Against Spodoptera frugiperda and Tenebrio molitor and Its Effect on Poecilia reticulata and Danio rerio

open access: yesToxics
Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) are two prominent pests of maize and its stored grains, respectively. Botanical pesticides have been proposed as an alternative for their management.
