Nonclassical Chiral Elasticity of the Gyroid Lattice

Physical Review Letters, 2020
The gyroid lattice is a metamaterial which allows chirality that is tunable by geometry. Gyroid lattices were made in chiral and nonchiral form by 3D printing. The chiral lattices exhibited nonclassical elastic effects including coupling between compressive stress and torsional deformation.

On Gyroid Interfaces

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1997
We use Brakke's Surface Evolver to construct a family of intersection-free triply periodic surfaces with constant mean curvature. The gyroid family models various physical interfaces. We calculate area and volume along the family, compare it with the Schwarz P and D families, and discuss the general problem of a comparison of triply periodic ...

Anomalous polarization in asymmetric gyroid structures

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2022
Recent studies show that structures with triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) provide enhanced mechanical, acoustical, and energy abortion performance. Previously, we have shown that breaking the symmetry of the gyroid lattice—one of the most used TPMS geometry—results in the creation of directional and polarized bandgaps.

Avatars of the gyroid

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1998
Abstract The unusual gyroid phase is described in three different amphiphilic systems. The way in which its existence can be understood in terms of surfaces of constant mean curvature is reviewed, as is the manner in which it can actually be accounted for by standard models of diblock copolymers solved within self-consistent field theory.

Core–Shell Gyroid in ABC Bottlebrush Block Terpolymers

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2022
Block polymer self-assembly provides a versatile platform for creating useful materials endowed with three-dimensional periodic network morphologies that support orthogonal physical properties such as high ionic conductivity and a high elastic modulus.

Gyroid Metamaterial Fabrication

2014
The basic steps to produce an optical metamaterial from block copolymer self-assembly can be summarized in the following: (a) self-assembly of gyroid block copolymer in thin films; (b) selective degradation and removal of one of the minor phases; (c) back filling of the so created nanoporous template via electrodeposition; (d) removal of the remaining ...

Ultrafiltration by gyroid nanoporous polymer membranes

Journal of Membrane Science, 2011
Abstract Gyroid nanoporous cross-linked 1,2-polybutadiene membranes with uniform pores were developed for ultrafiltration applications. The gyroid porosity has the advantage of isotropic percolation with no need for structure pre-alignment. The effects of solvent and surface photo-hydrophilization on permeation and molecular weight cut-off were ...

Electrolyte Diffusion in Gyroidal Nanoporous Carbon

The Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2015
The structural properties of gyroidal nanoporous carbon (GNC) materials and their diffusion properties are investigated using a combination of molecular dynamics methods. We consider nine different GNC materials with variable pore geometry and pore size to establish that the local curvature induced by the presence of specific carbon ring size imposes ...

Single-Domain Gyroid Optical Metamaterials

2018
In this chapter, we demonstrate that the observed linear dichroism in single-domain gyroid optical metamaterials fabricated using an 80 kg mol\(^{-1}\) polyisoprene-b-polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene oxide) (ISO) triblock terpolymer is a result of the termination of the single gyroid morphology at the surface of the metamaterial.

Multi-Domain Gyroid Optical Metamaterials

2018
In this chapter, we investigate the optical properties of multi-domain gold gyroid optical metamaterials fabricated from the alternating gyroid phase of a 80 kg mol\(^{-1}\) polyisoprene-b-polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene oxide) (ISO) triblock terpolymer. The specular reflection of the isotropic metamaterial is measured under a range of angles of incidence ...
