Stability of a suspension of gyrotactic microorganisms in superimposed fluid and porous layers
International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 2004Abstract The aim of this paper is to investigate the stability of a suspension of motile gyrotactic microorganisms in a system that consists of superimposed fluid and porous layers. This is relevant to many biological applications, such as growing motile microorganisms in Petri dishes.

Purpose This paper aims to explore the study of magnetohydrodynamic viscous fluid flow past on a stretching cylinder with nonlinear thermal radiation having gyrotactic microorganisms. Design/methodology/approach Appropriate transformations reduce the nonlinear partial differential equation to ordinary ones.

This investigation aims to present the thermally developed bioconvection flow of Williamson nanoliquid over an inclined stretching cylinder in presence of linear mixed convection and nonuniform heat source/sink. The activation energy and suspension of gyrotactic microorganisms are accounted with applications of bioconvection phenomenon.

On the basis of Darcy–Brinkman model, linear stability analysis is used to study bio-thermal convection in a suspension of gyrotactic microorganisms in a highly porous medium heated from below. A Galerkin method is performed to solve the governing equations generating a correlation between the traditional thermal Rayleigh number and the critical value ...

Clustering of gyrotactic microorganisms in turbulent flows
2020We study the spatial distribution of gyrotactic microorganisms swimming in a three-dimensional turbulent flow by means of direct numerical simulations. We find that gyrotaxis combines with turbulent fluctuations to produce small scales patchiness with fractal clustering.

Here we have numerically examined the effects of EMHD in flow of nanofluid past a porous Riga surface with gyrotactic microorganism and nanoparticles. Modeling is presented via Grinberg term and a Lorentz force parallel to the wall of a Riga plate. The fluid is electrically conducting, and the Lorentz force decreases exponentially.

Transient dispersion of settling gyrotactic microorganisms in an open channel flow
Physics of FluidsDispersion of microorganisms is a key issue in bio-physics and has many applications in the fields of algae cultivation, biomass energy, and wetland ecology. However, there has been limited exploration of the effects of settling behavior and initial release conditions on the transient dispersion of gyrotactic microorganisms.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the stability of a suspension containing both gyrotactic and oxytactic microorganisms for the case when the suspension occupies a horizontal layer of finite depth. The lower boundary of the layer is assumed rigid while at the upper boundary both situations of rigid and stress‐free boundary conditions ...
