Arrival direction finding for narrow-band auroral hiss at Syowa Station

open access: yesAntarctic Record, 1982
From the direction finding (DF) observations based on the measurement of wave arrival time differences among three spaced points around Syowa Station (geomagnetic lat. -70.0°), the arrival direction of narrow-band auroral hiss was examined.

Attenuation of plasmaspheric hiss associated with the enhanced magnetospheric electric field [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2021
We report an attenuation of hiss wave intensity in the duskside of the outer plasmasphere in response to enhanced convection and a substorm based on Van Allen Probe observations.

The Evolution of Whistler Hiss‐Like Waves Across Plasmapause: Hiss to Exohiss

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
The exohiss waves are hiss‐like whistler mode waves that occur outside plasmapause. Although these waves can cause the loss of radiation belt electrons ∼

Imbalanced Regressive Neural Network Model for Whistler‐Mode Hiss Waves: Spatial and Temporal Evolution

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics
Whistler‐mode hiss waves are crucial to the dynamics of Earth's radiation belts, particularly in the scattering and loss of energetic electrons and forming the slot region between the inner and outer belts.

Early-Time Non-Equilibrium Pitch Angle Diffusion of Electrons by Whistler-Mode Hiss in a Plasmaspheric Plume Associated with BARREL Precipitation

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2021
In August 2015, the Balloon Array for Radiation belt Relativistic Electron Losses (BARREL) observed precipitation of energetic ( < 200 keV) electrons magnetically conjugate to a region of dense cold plasma as measured by the twin Van Allen Probes ...

On the Relationship Between the Banded Hiss Distribution and Plasmapause Location: A Survey of Van Allen Probes Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The plasmapause is the outer boundary of the plasmasphere and plays a crucial role in the propagation of plasma waves. We statistically investigate the relationship between the distribution of banded hiss and plasmapause locations.

Comparisons of Auroral Hiss Spectra Observed at Syowa and Mizuho Stations (c. Wave-Particle Interactions in the Magnetosphere) (Proceedings of the Second Symposium on Coordinated Observations of the Ionosphere and Magnetosphere in the Polar Regions : Part I)

open access: yesAntarctic Record, 1980
Simultaneous observations of auroral hiss emissions have been carried out at Syowa and Mizuho Stations. The intensity of auroral hiss emissions was different from case by case at the two stations. However the spectral shapes of hiss emissions obtained at

Realistic Dispersion of Plasmaspheric Hiss in the Inner Magnetosphere and Its Effect on Wave-induced Electron Scattering Rates

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2021
The cold plasma approximation is a common treatment to study wave–particle interactions between plasmaspheric hiss and magnetospheric electrons, which, however, can become a challenge during periods of disturbed geomagnetic activity.

Multi‐Parameter Chorus and Plasmaspheric Hiss Wave Models

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2020
The resonant interaction of energetic particles with plasma waves, such as chorus and plasmaspheric hiss waves, plays a direct and crucial role in the acceleration and loss of radiation belt electrons that ultimately affect the dynamics of the radiation ...

Colonial and gendered peace: Decolonial perspectives on peace in Nagorno‐Karabakh

open access: yesFeminist Anthropology, EarlyView.
Abstract This article critically interrogates peace processes in the aftermath of the First Nagorno‐Karabakh War by centering the lived experiences and political voices of Armenian and Azerbaijani internally displaced and refugee women, based on ethnographic fieldwork and in‐depth interviews conducted in 2019.
