Confinement improvement in H-mode-like plasmas in helical systems
The reduction of the anomalous transport due to the inhomogeneous radial electric field is theoretically studied for toroidal helical plasmas. The self-sustained interchange-mode turbulence is analysed for a system with magnetic shear and magnetic hill.

Overview of the JET results in support to ITER [PDF]
The 2014–2016 JET results are reviewed in the light of their significance for optimising the ITER research plan for the active and non-active operation. More than 60 h of plasma operation with ITER first wall materials successfully took place since its

Radial localization of electron temperature pedestal and ELM-like events using ECE measurements at Wendelstein 7-X [PDF]
A magnetic configuration scan was performed at Wendelstein 7-X stellarator by varying the rotational transform to analyze the plasma confinement for magnetic configurations with different edge magnetic island locations and sizes.

Helium exhaust experiments on JET with Type I ELMs in H-mode and with type III ELMs in ITB discharges [PDF]
An analysis of helium exhaust experiments on JET in the MkII-GB divertor configuration is presented. Helium is pumped by applying an argon frost layer on the divertor cryo pump.

The dependence of confinement on the isotope mass in the core and the edge of AUG and JET-ILW H-mode plasmas [PDF]
Abstract Experiments in ASDEX Upgrade (AUG) and JET with the ITER-like wall (JET-ILW) are performed to separate the pedestal and core contributions to confinement in H-modes with different main ion masses. A strong isotope mass dependence in the pedestal is found which is enhanced at high gas puffing. This is because the ELM type changes

Study of the spectral properties of ELM precursors by means of wavelets [PDF]
The high confinement regime (H-mode) in tokamaks is accompanied by the occurrence of bursts of MHD activity at the plasma edge, so-called edge localized modes (ELMs), lasting less than 1 ms.

H-mode grade confinement in L-mode edge plasmas at negative triangularity on DIII-D [PDF]
Plasmas with a negative triangularity shape have been created on the DIII-D tokamak that, despite maintaining standard L-mode edge radial profiles, reach volume averaged pressure levels typical of H-mode scenarios. Within the auxiliary power available for these experiments, plasmas exhibit near-zero power degradation while sustaining βN = 2.7 and H98 ...

Transitions to improved confinement regimes induced by changes in heating in zero-dimensional models for tokamak plasmas [PDF]
It is shown that rapid substantial changes in heating rate can induce transitions to improved energy confinement regimes in zero-dimensional models for tokamak plasma phenomenology. We examine for the first time the effect of step changes in heating rate
