Local Physics Basis of Confinement Degradation in JET ELMy H-Mode Plasmas and Implications for Tokamak Reactors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
First results of gyrokinetic analysis of JET [Joint European Torus] ELMy [Edge Localized Modes] H-mode [high-confinement modes] plasmas are presented. ELMy H-mode plasmas form the basis of conservative performance predictions for tokamak reactors of the size of ITER [International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor].

Microporous Microgel Assemblies Facilitating the Recruitment and Osteogenic Differentiation of Progenitor Cells for Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
There is a significant need for biomaterials with well‐defined stability and bioactivity to support tissue regeneration. In this study, we developed a tunable microgel platform that enables the decoupling of stiffness from porosity, thereby promoting bone regeneration.

Extension and its characteristics of ECRH plasma in the LHD

open access: yes, 2004
One of the main objectives of the LHD is to extend the plasma confinement database for helical systems and to demonstrate such extended plasma confinement properties to be sustained in steady state.

Overview of the JET results in support to ITER [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The 2014–2016 JET results are reviewed in the light of their significance for optimising the ITER research plan for the active and non-active operation. More than 60 h of plasma operation with ITER first wall materials successfully took place since its

Backbone Heterojunction Photocatalysts for Efficient Sacrificial Hydrogen Production

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, a ‘single‐component’ organic semiconductor photocatalyst is presented in which a molecular donor is bonded to a polymer acceptor. The resultant material demonstrates exceptional photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution in aqueous triethylamine with an outstanding external quantum efficiency of 38% at 420 nm.

Comparing linear ion-temperature-gradient-driven mode stability of the National Compact Stellarator Experiment and a shaped tokamak

open access: yes, 2013
One metric for comparing confinement properties of different magnetic fusion energy configurations is the linear critical gradient of drift wave modes.

MOFs and COFs in Electronics: Bridging the Gap between Intrinsic Properties and Measured Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise for advanced electronics. However, discrepancies in reported electrical conductivities highlight the importance of measurement methodologies. This review explores intrinsic charge transport mechanisms and extrinsic factors influencing performance, and critically ...

H-mode characteristics and first experimental results of current drive with electron cyclotron waves on EAST

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Reproducible H-mode plasmas with electron cyclotron (EC) waves as the sole auxiliary heating tool have been achieved recently on EAST in a broad range of plasma parameters with an ITER-like tungsten divertor.

Interpretations of the impact of cross-field drifts on divertor flows in DIII-D with UEDGE

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
Simulations using the multi-fluid code UEDGE indicates that, in low confinement (L-mode) plasmas in DIII-D, poloidal projection of the ionization driven flows dominate poloidal particle flows in the divertor near the divertor plates, whereas E ×B drift ...

Te/Ti effects on JET energy confinement properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Lately the question has been raised if a modification of the energy-confinement scaling law with respect to the electron to ion temperature ratio, Te/Ti, is required. Theoretically, like in e.g.
