Characterization and functional reconstruction of a highly productive germacrene A synthase from Liriodendron chinense

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 6, Page 1927-1937, June 2025.
Germacrene A Synthase (LcTPS3) from Liriodendron was characterized. The biosynthesis of germacrene A was achieved in a yeast chassis, and the catalytic mechanism of LcTPS3 was further elucidated. Summary Plants produce a large array of natural products which play important roles in flavours, fragrances and medicines.

Exploring Ant‐Mollusk Interactions: Insights From Southern Spain

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2025.
This study reports new data about ant‐mollusk interactions from accidental field observations, a quantitative analysis of the snail shells found in 16 Messor ant nest cleanings, and a qualitative analysis of 51 additional nests of different species. ABSTRACT Ants occupy a great variety of habitats, perform essential ecological roles, and interact with ...

Synthesis and biological profile of substituted hexahydrofuro[3,4‐b]furans, a novel class of bicyclic acyl‐acyl carrier protein (ACP) thioesterase inhibitors

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 5, Page 2635-2651, May 2025.
The present work covers a series of novel herbicidal lead structures that possess a hexahydrofuro[3,4‐b]furan scaffold as a structural key feature, carrying ortho‐substituted aryloxy side chains. Based on an optimized synthetic approach a broader structure–activity relationship (SAR) study was carried out delivering some lead structures that show good ...

Tracing the origin of the alien pest Cydia pomonella in Algeria through a worldwide comparison of the species’ DNA barcodes Reserche de l'origine du ravageur exotique Cydia pomonella en Algérie grâce à une comparaison mondiale des codes‐barres ADN de l'espèce Rastreando el origen de la plaga exótica Cydia pomonella en Argelia mediante una comparación mundial de los códigos de barras del ADN de la especie

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 2, Page 171-181, May 2025.
Cydia pomonella (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is a harmful apple and pear pest spread worldwide. We sequenced, for the first time, mitochondrial DNA from C. pomonella caterpillars collected in Northern Africa (Algeria) and assessed where it was introduced from.

Heart rate variability in horses with and without severe equine asthma

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 57, Issue 3, Page 611-618, May 2025.
Abstract Background Equine asthma in severe form (severe equine asthma [sEA]) shares remarkable similarities with human asthma. Human studies detected changes in the autonomic nervous system function in asthmatic patients based on heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. Study design Observational study. Objectives To investigate the relationship between

How Air Temperature and Solar Radiation Impact Life History Traits in a Wild Insect

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ectotherms are essential components of all ecosystems and rely on external heat to regulate their body temperature. We studied the effects of air temperature and shading on crickets reared at different altitudes and found that development time was influenced primarily by temperature, whereas mass at adulthood depended on the interaction between shading

Molecular Evolution of the H5 and H7 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus Haemagglutinin Cleavage Site Motif

open access: yesReviews in Medical Virology, Volume 35, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Avian influenza viruses are ubiquitous in the Anatinae subfamily of aquatic birds and occasionally spill over to poultry. Infection with low pathogenicity avian influenza viruses generally leads to subclinical or mild clinical disease. In contrast, highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses emerge from low pathogenic forms and can cause severe ...

Enhancing Psychophysiological Well‐Being Through Nature‐Based Soundscapes: An Examination of Heart Rate Variability in a Cross‐Over Study

open access: yesPsychophysiology, Volume 62, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Stress and psychological disorders are substantial public health concerns, necessitating innovative therapeutic strategies. This study investigated the psychophysiological benefits of nature‐based soundscapes, drawing on the biophilia hypothesis.
