[Evolution of the hemagglutinin gene of influenza A virus H1N1-subtype (1977-1983].
Molekuliarnaia genetika, mikrobiologiia i virusologiia, 1987A scheme for evolutionary interrelations of the H1-subunits of influenza hemagglutinin genes is proposed for the natural variants of influenza A virus of the H1N1-subtype. It is based on experimental data obtained by the authors and those reported in the literature.

Deaths from influenza A, subtype H1N1, during the 1979 Auckland epidemic.
The New Zealand medical journal, 1980We report seven cases of influenza-associated deaths in persons under twenty-two years of age, five of whom were previously fit and well, during an influenza A epidemic affecting Auckland city during the second quarter of 1979. Despite intensive care in three of the patients, all followed a similar course of fatal hypoxaemia. The failure of appropriate

Digest: Reassortment-based evolution of H1N1 subtype swine influenza virus in China
EvolutionAbstract In a new study, Zhao et al. (2025) obtain 959 whole genome sequences of H1N1 subtype swine influenza virus (SIV) isolated from China. Their analysis of the sequences, isolated between 1977 and 2020, reveals how H1N1 lineages have co-evolved and contributed to instances of zoonotic transmission within the region.
