Tensile behavior of friction-stir-welded AZ31-H24 Mg alloy

In the present study, tensile behavior of friction-stir-welded AZ31 (Mg-3.6Al-1Zn-0.6Mn in wt pct)-H24 Mg alloy was investigated. It was found that the tensile property, particularly tensile elongation, of AZ31-H24 alloy was significantly degraded with friction stir welding (FSW).

Metallurgical Evaluation of AZ31B-H24 Magnesium Alloy Friction Stir Welds

Friction Stir welding of 3.175 mm (0.125 in.) thick plates of AZ31-H24 magnesium alloy was performed using several travel velocities and tool-rotation speeds. After production the welds were cross-sectioned and a metallurgical characterization was performed using optical microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy.

Fracture Strengths of Mg Alloy AZ31B-H24 Friction Stir Lap Welds

The effects of selected friction stir lap welding parameters on fracture strength of Mg alloy AZ31B-H24 welds have been studied. Rotation speed has been found to affect significantly the flow related hook size formation. Furthermore, fracture strength decreased almost linearly with hook size.
