Basic bacteriology of H. pylori: H. pylori colonization factors

1994
Helicobacter pylori is an unusual bacterial pathogen. This organism infects its host most probably in childhood and remains in most persons for life unless there has been specific H. pylori antimicrobial therapy or the stomach becomes an inhospitable environment due to such events as changes in the stomach due to long-term gastritis or surgery.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) Eradication

2017
In 1998, Gasbarrini et al. reported that eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) increased platelet counts in most H. pylori-positive immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) patients. A large number of retrospective and prospective studies have since been performed in order to evaluate the efficacy of eradication therapy.

Studies of Respiration in H. pylori

2003
In the procedures described here, respiratory metabolism is estimated by direct determination of oxygen uptake, measured as a reduction in the dissolved oxygen tension (DOT) of cell suspensions or extracts. Continuous monitoring of DOT is achieved using a Clark-type oxygen electrode linked to a chart recorder.

Therapy for H. pylori infection

Current Gastroenterology Reports, 1999
The discovery that peptic ulcers can be caused by gastroduodenal infection with Helicobacter pylori and cured by eradication of this bacterial presence has made a profound impact on ulcer management. This article reviews the principles behind such treatment and the regimens in current use, including proton pump inhibitor triple therapies and ranitidine

H. pylori urease

1994
Urease is a relatively common enzyme that is produced by over 100 bacterial species. In the past, the activity of this enzyme has been used in taxonomic identification systems for the speciation of bacteria in the clinical laboratory. Over the past decade, however, the role for this enzyme in pathogenesis of many bacterial infections has been ...

H. pylori eradication

1994
Helicobacter pylori-associated gastroduodenal inflammation is now considered to be the dominant factor in H. pylori-associated gastroduodenal ulcer formation. Healing the gastroduodenal mucosa through H. pylori eradication leads to a dramatic reduction in gastroduodenal ulcer relapse. Eradication of H.
