This thesis investigates how increased global mean temperatures on Earth, induced by the increase in the luminosity of the Sun as it ages, change the types of habitable environments on the planet at local scales over the next 3 Gyr.

Abstract The global teacher shortage continues to intensify, with disparate impacts across geographic and socio‐economic communities. In Queensland, Australia, where this study originates, post‐COVID teacher shortages have intensified workforce pressures, leaving several regional, rural and remote schools as some of the ‘hardest‐to‐staff’ in the ...

We determine optimal requirements for the joint detection of habitable-zone planets and cold giant planets with the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO). Analysis of 164 nearby stars shows that a coronagraph outer working angle of 1440 milliarcseconds (mas)

Adaptive Genomic Divergence Across Altitudes in Capsella bursa‐pastoris
Genomic divergence was observed between high‐altitude and low‐altitude populations of Capsella bursa‐pastoris in China, consistent with an important role of ecological factors. Candidate adaptive loci associated with enhanced energy metabolism, photoprotection, and growth plasticity under altitudinal stress were identified.

Water Evolution and Inventories of Super-Earths Orbiting Late M Dwarfs
Super-Earths orbiting M dwarf stars may be the most common habitable planets in the Universe. However, their habitability is threatened by intense irradiation from their host stars, which drives the escape of water to space and can lead to surface ...

A Limited Habitable Zone for Complex Life [PDF]
The habitable zone (HZ) is commonly defined as the range of distances from a host star within which liquid water, a key requirement for life, may exist on a planet’s surface. Substantially more CO2 than present in Earth’s modern atmosphere is required to

Circumstellar Habitable Zone around M-type stars
This work presents a study of planetary habitability with base in Circumstellar Habitable Zone (CHZ) — which is, for now, the best way to estimate if a planet is minimally habitable without knowing its intrinsic physical conditions —, more specifically ...

Spatial metrics in fire ecology: seeking consistency amidst complexity
ABSTRACT Technological advances, including remote sensing, have led to a proliferation of metrics used in ecological studies to examine spatial patterns of fire regimes and their ecological effects. Researchers can use many different metrics to analyse spatial variation in both fire events and resulting fire regimes, including fire size, shape ...

Multiverse Predictions for Habitability: Number of Potentially Habitable Planets
How good is our universe at making habitable planets? The answer to this depends on which factors are important for life: Does a planet need to be Earth mass? Does it need to be inside the temperate zone? are systems with hot Jupiters habitable? Here, we
