Pak Biawak, a necrobot, embodies an unusual fusion of biology and robotics. Designed to repurpose natural structures after death, it challenges conventional boundaries between nature and engineering. Its movements are precise yet unsettling, raising questions about sustainability, ethics, and the untapped potential of biointegrated machines.

The use of multibeam sonar mapping techniques to refine population estimates of the endangered white abalone (Haliotis sorenseni) [PDF]
Multibeam sonar mapping techniques provide detailed benthic habitat information that can be combined with the data on species-specific habitat preferences to provide highly accurate calculations of populations in a particular area. The amount of suitable

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

Sensor-Assisted Video Mosaicing for Seafloor Mapping [PDF]
This paper discusses a proposed processing technique for combining video imagery with auxiliary sensor information. The latter greatly simplifies image processing by reducing complexity of the transformation model.

ABSTRACT Gut microbiota dysbiosis promotes colorectal cancer (CRC) tumorigenesis. A global fecal metagenomic analysis identified Gemella morbillorum as a key contributor to the CRC‐associated microbiota. Fluorescence in situ hybridization revealed that Gemella morbillorum is enriched in CRC tumor tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues.

EUNIS Habitat Classification: Expert system, characteristic species combinations and distribution maps of European habitats [PDF]
AbstractAimThe EUNIS Habitat Classification is a widely used reference framework for European habitat types (habitats), but it lacks formal definitions of individual habitats that would enable their unequivocal identification. Our goal was to develop a tool for assigning vegetation‐plot records to the habitats of the EUNIS system, use it to classify a ...

Comparison of three modelling approaches of potential natural forest habitats in Bavaria, Germany [PDF]
In the context of the EU Habitats Directive, which contains the obligation of environmental monitoring, nature conservation authorities face a growing demand for effective and competitive methods to survey protected habitats.

An ecological framework for the development of a national MPA network [PDF]
Isolated marine protected areas (MPAs) may not be enough to sustain viable populations of marine species, particularly the many small coastal MPAs which resulted due to social, economic and political constraints.

PirN was identified as a previously uncharacterized PsbO‐interacting protein specifically induced in nitrate‐grown cyanobacteria. Loss of PirN leads to coordinated downregulation of PsbO and the nitrate reductase NarB, causing decreased PSII activity and impaired growth under nitrate conditions. Complementation with either PsbO or NarB largely restores
