Global Urbanization and Habitat Quality: Interactive Coercive Relationships

open access: yesLand
Urbanization is inevitably accompanied by drastic changes in regional land use and therefore presents an evident influence on ecosystems. Habitat quality (HQ) reflects the ability of a habitat to provide suitable conditions for the survival of an ...

Regional Differences in U.S. Consumer Preferences for Native Woody Shrubs With Varying Aesthetic Characteristics

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Native plants offer a variety of aesthetic (e.g., fall colour, fruit, flowers) and functional benefits (e.g., pollinator friendly, wildlife friendly, water management). How these benefits influence consumer choice and perceived value of native versus introduced plants is not well understood.

Potential impact of future land use/cover dynamics on the habitat quality of the Yayo Coffee Forest Biosphere Reserve, southwestern Ethiopia

open access: yesGeocarto International
Human activities, including agricultural expansion, urbanization, and industrial advancement, have led to land use/cover change (LULCC). These changes have had negative consequences, such as the loss of species and the degradation of forest areas.

EMG‐Driven Telemetry and Inference System for Fish: Pose Reconstruction and Flow Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work introduces an electromyography (EMG)‐driven telemetry framework that reconstructs body pose and infers hydrodynamic conditions in freely swimming fish. A custom 16‐channel archival system records intramuscular EMG, enabling deep‐learning models to decode joint kinematics, classify flow regimes, and reveal channel‐efficient sensing strategies.

Habitat quality and fish population

open access: yes, 2016
Degradation of marine ecosystem due to, among others, eutrophication and climate change, has been of concern for sustainable fishery management worldwide, but studies on associated impacts on fish populations are rare. The purpose of this study is to estimate effects of nutrient loads, which cause eutrophication, on the perch population at the Swedish ...

The effects of water quality on freshwater fish populations - final report [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
There is a need to determine quantitative relationships between fishery status and water quality in order to make informed judgements concerning fishery health and the setting of environmental quality standards for fishery protection.

Enhancement of Underwater Video Mosaics for Post-Processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Mosaics of seafloor created from still images or video acquired underwater have proved to be useful for construction of maps of forensic and archeological sites, species\u27 abundance estimates, habitat characterization, etc.

Artificial Intelligence in Autonomous Mobile Robot Navigation: From Classical Approaches to Intelligent Adaptation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping autonomous mobile robot navigation beyond classical pipelines. This review analyzes how AI techniques are integrated into core navigation tasks, including path planning and control, localization and mapping, perception, and context‐aware decision‐making. Learning‐based, probabilistic, and soft‐computing methods

A lifetime of experiences: Modelling habitat quality through cumulative effects on individual survival

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Variation in habitat quality affects individual fitness through the accumulation of benefits and costs over time. Although an individual's fitness and susceptibility to mortality are consequences of these past experiences, current analytical models do ...
