Understanding Plant Parasitism: Hydnora Africana and European Scientific Practice in the Early Nineteenth Century**

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, EarlyView.
This article will analyze the uncertainties around collecting and classifying Hydnora africana in the first half of the nineteenth century. Emerging from the distinctive dryland ecologies of South Africa, Hydnora was interpreted as strange and cryptic by Europeans primarily because it is a root parasite—a complex floral trait that was little understood.

Enhancing the Secretion Systems: Genetic Engineering of Super Bioagents for Effective Plant Disease Control

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
Genetic engineering (GE) overcomes BCA limits, enabling robust, scalable crop protection. “Super Bioagents” (SBs) use optimized SSs to enhance bioactive molecule delivery. Optimizing SSs enhance precise, sustainable effector deployment for stable disease suppression. SBs use microbiome‐informed design for scalable, next‐gen sustainable crop protection.
