Pak Biawak, a necrobot, embodies an unusual fusion of biology and robotics. Designed to repurpose natural structures after death, it challenges conventional boundaries between nature and engineering. Its movements are precise yet unsettling, raising questions about sustainability, ethics, and the untapped potential of biointegrated machines.

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Spatial organisation and feeding ecology of the American mink (Mustela vison) in a coastal habitat [PDF]
The American mink (Mustela vison Schreber) is the only introduced carnivore that has successfully colonised the British Isles. In the present study, the important problem of understanding which are the factors that limit or enhance their number has been ...

Iron‐Mediated Release of Aged Dissolved Organic Carbon From Waterlogged Peatland Under Warming
This study conducts a five‐year in situ warming experiment in high‐altitude peatlands to examine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release. The study shows that warming promotes the release of plant‐derived modern DOC in drained peatlands, but amplifies aquatic export of century‐old DOC from waterlogged peatlands via Fe‐mediated DOC mobilization—a ...

Ontogenetic and spatial variations in brown trout habitat selection
Habitat quality and quantity determine many biological processes and traits that directly affect the population dynamics of stream fishes. Understanding how habitat selection is adjusted to different ecological conditions is essential to improve ...
