Instrumental helping motivations of children and chimpanzees

open access: yesChild Development Perspectives, Volume 19, Issue 2, Page 72-79, June 2025.
Abstract Chimpanzees and other great apes seem to be much less cooperative than humans overall, yet they nevertheless reliably help others in many instrumental circumstances. Although in many contexts the helping behavior of chimpanzees is quite similar to that of human children, recent studies using both behavioral and psychophysiological paradigms ...

Information Processing Bias in Post-traumatic Stress Disorder [PDF]

open access: yes
This review considers theory and evidence for abnormal information processing in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Cognitive studies have indicated sensitivity in PTSD for traumatic information, more so than general emotional information.

Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) Reactivity and Developmental Delay in the Preschool Years

open access: yesDevelopmental Psychobiology, Volume 67, Issue 3, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Children with developmental delay are more likely than their typically developing peers to experience emotional dysregulation. Given that there is evidence that respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) reactivity indexes emotion regulation, which in turn tracks motor, language, and cognitive development across the early years, RSA reactivity should ...

Maternal Emotion Regulation and Parenting: A Physiological Perspective

open access: yesDevelopmental Psychobiology, Volume 67, Issue 3, May 2025.
ABSTRACT The psychological capacity for emotion regulation (ER) facilitates sensitive caregiving and fosters positive child outcomes. Parasympathetic regulation, indexed by respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA), is an important physiological component of ER. While growing evidence supports the link between parents’ physiological ER and parenting behaviors,

Pasta, What a Feeling! A Multi‐Method Study on the Relationship Between Pasta Consumption and Happiness

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 5, May 2025.
Across two complementary studies, pasta consumption was found to be significantly associated with increased happiness, particularly when consumed in social settings. Implicit and explicit assessments showed strong positive emotional responses towards pasta, and mindfulness was found to enhance these effects.

Acute Psychological Stress and Pulse Wave Velocity: Meta‐Analysis and Recommendations for Future Research

open access: yesPsychophysiology, Volume 62, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Repeated exposures to acute psychological stress may be associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, but the mechanisms underlying this relationship are not fully understood. The objective of this meta‐analysis was to determine the effect of acute psychological stress on central pulse wave velocity (PWV) compared to pre‐stress (baseline)
