Short‐Term Effects of Meteorological Factors on Severe Fever With Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Incidence in Xinyang, China

open access: yesGeoHealth, Volume 9, Issue 8, August 2025.
From 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2023 a total of 6,601 cases of SFTS were reported in Xinyang. The incidence of SFTS exhibits evident seasonality, commencing from March and gradually escalating from April, peaking between May and June, followed by a decline with reduced incidence after October.

Ferritin1-mediated ferroptosis participates in granular acini degeneration of Haemaphysalis longicornis salivary glands

open access: yesTicks and Tick-Borne Diseases
Ticks (Haemaphysalis longicornis) transmit pathogens to their hosts through their salivary glands during blood-feeding. The salivary glands of adult parthenogenetic H. longicornis undergo degeneration post-engorgement. Clarifying the molecular mechanisms

Distribution, Host-Seeking Phenology, and Host and Habitat Associations of Haemaphysalis longicornis Ticks, Staten Island, New York, USA

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2019
Haemaphysalis longicornis, an invasive Ixodid tick, was recently reported in the eastern United States. The emergence of these ticks represents a potential threat for livestock, wildlife, and human health.

Basophil Activation Test: Bridging Allergy and Oncology for Diagnostic, Therapeutic and Prognostic Applications in AllergoOncology: An EAACI Position Paper

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 80, Issue 8, Page 2097-2112, August 2025.
ABSTRACT The basophil activation test (BAT) is gaining increasing relevance as an ex vivo functional assay in allergy to evaluate IgE‐mediated hypersensitivity reactions to food allergens, venoms, and drugs and to monitor tolerance induction. Establishing universal standard operating protocols has been difficult, due to several challenges including ...

Mapping the global potential transmission hotspots for severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome by machine learning methods

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections, 2020
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease with increasing spread. Currently SFTS transmission has expanded beyond Asian countries, however, with definitive global extents and risk patterns remained obscure. Here

Comparative immunogenicity of Haemaphysalis longicornis and Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus calreticulins

open access: yesVeterinary Parasitology, 2009
The ticks Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus and Haemaphysalis longicornis are blood-sucking ectoparasites of bovines, causing serious damages to the livestock production. The main control method for these ticks is based on acaricides. However, the use of vaccines has been studied as a promising control strategy.

Comparative analysis of microRNA profiles between wild and cultured Haemaphysalis longicornis (Acari, Ixodidae) ticks

open access: yesParasite, 2019
The miRNA profiles of a Haemaphysalis longicornis wild-type (HLWS) and of a Haemaphysalis longicornis cultured population (HLCS) were sequenced using the Illumina Hiseq 4000 platform combined with bioinformatics analysis and real-time polymerase chain ...

Tick species, tick-borne pathogen distribution and risk factor analysis in border areas of China, Russia and North Korea

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
IntroductionTicks are important ectoparasites of livestock. Ticks and tick-borne diseases (TBDs) cause losses to the animal husbandry industry and also present a major hidden danger to public health and safety. However, the tick species and prevalence of

The identification and characterization of lysozyme from the hard tick Haemaphysalis longicornis

open access: yesTicks and Tick-borne Diseases, 2010
A full-length cDNA-encoding lysozyme was obtained from cDNA libraries of salivary glands of the hard tick Haemaphysalis longicornis and designated as HlLysozyme. The HlLysozyme sequence represents an open reading frame for a putative signal peptide and the mature protein composed of 121 amino acids.
