Second Intermediate Host-Specificity of Haematoloechus complexus and Haematoloechus medioplexus (Digenea: Haematoloechidae)

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology, 1994
Second intermediate host-specificity was examined for 2 species of the frog lung fluke genus Haematolechus. Nine species of freshwater arthropods were exposed to cercariae of H. complexus and H. medioplexus. Metacercariae of H. complexus developed in all arthropod species used. Metacercariae of H.

The Ultra Structure of the Vitelline Cells of Haematoloechus

The Journal of Parasitology, 1957
For a number of years investigators generally agreed that in oviparous trematodes the vitelline cells provided the food for the egg while the shellor Mehlis' gland provided the shell. Although the nutritive role of the vitellaria has remained unquestioned, serious doubts as to the capacity of the shell gland to produce all of the materials necessary ...

The Uptake of Radiosulphate by Haematoloechus medioplexus

The Journal of Parasitology, 1963
Female Rana pipiens were injected with S"O4 in the dorsal lymph space at the dosage of 0.35 to 0.41 Lc/g body weight. After 3 and 28 hr the frogs were killed and their lung flukes, Haematoloechus medioplexus (Trematoda: Plagiorchiidae), were recovered and autoradiographed, using the stripping film method. The exposure period was 26 weeks.

Schistosoma mansoni and Haematoloechus medioplexus: Nucleosidediphosphatase localization in tegument

Experimental Parasitology, 1971
The distribution of nucleosidediphosphatase (EC 3.6.1.6) activity in the teguments of two trematodes, Haematoloechus medioplexus and Schistosoma mansoni, was determined by cytochemical methods. Enzyme activity was observed associated with the apical plasma membrane of the tegument of H.

Haematoloechus medioplexus: Enzymatic oxidation of 3,3′-diaminobenzidine in mitochondria

Experimental Parasitology, 1970
Abstract The oxidation of 3,3′-diaminobenzidine (DAB) is believed to be due to a cytochrome-cytochrome oxidase system in the mitochondria of the trematode, Haematoloechus medioplexus . The reaction is apparently sensitive to the absence of inorganic phosphate from the incubation medium.
