Properties of the haemolymph of the corn earworm
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1972Abstract 1. 1. We determined values for several properties of the haemolymph of the corn earworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie) and compared them with previously reported results for Lepidoptera. 2. 2. The concentrations of Na, K, Mg, Ca, Cl were found to be about 23, 37, 68, 3 and 25 mM. 3. 3. The total osmolality was about 338 mOsmole.

Abstract When whole blood from 5 day third instar larvae of the fleshfly, Sarcophaga barbata was incubated under nitrogen at 25°C for 16 hr in the presence of salivary glands there was an increase in its protyrosinase content, which amounted to 53% of that which occurs in vivo over the same period. The protyrosinase in ammonium sulphate fractions

Roles and Biomedical Applications of Haemolymph Lectin
Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2020Background:Lectins are class of proteins characterized by their ability to selectively bind carbohydrate moieties of glycoproteins. Many invertebrate lectins, especially derived from hemolymph, are being purified, and yet their functions and medical applications are subjects of major interest. Methods:Hemolymph lectins in invertebrates play a major role

Comparative studies of serum and haemolymph proteins
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, 1970Abstract 1. 1. A comparative study has been made of some of the physico-chemical characteristics of vertebrate and invertebrate serum proteins. 2. 2. Proteins of electrophoretic mobility comparable to the immunoglobulins of human serum were shown to be present in all the vertebrate sera studied. Similar proteins were also found in many of the

Studies on ecdysone transport in insect haemolymph
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1970Abstract Philosamia cynthia larvae and pupae were fed or injected with high specific activity 3 H-α-ecdysone. The two major haemolymph lipoproteins were purified and the 3 H-ecdysone was radioassayed during the purification process. The data reveal that α-ecdysone is not bound to these lipoproteins.

Gel filtration of insect haemolymph proteins
Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1968Haemolymph from 6th instar larvae of Malacosoma americanum and 5th instar nymphs of Locusta migratoria was subjected to gel filtration on Sephadex G-200. Three protein fractions were produced in each case. Each fraction was analyzed for protein content and assayed for esterase and tyrosinase activity.

Haemolymph lipoprotein transport of juvenile hormone
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1972Abstract Studies utilizing Sephadex chromatography, slab gel electrophoresis, thin-layer chromatography, and bioassay indicate that the yellow high-density lipoprotein (yHDL) found in the haemolymph of saturniid moths is involved in the transport of juvenile hormone.

Natural precipitating proteins in insect haemolymph
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1970Abstract Spontaneous precipitation of haemolymph proteins of Galleria mellonella and Periplaneta americana occurred when diffused in agar phosphate buffered at pH 7·4. Insect plasma protein of these two species diffused against each other in agar borate at pH 9·0 (a condition which minimized spontaneous or autoprecipitation), developed precipitated ...

Anti-trypanosomal factor in the haemolymph of "Glossina"
Acta tropica, 1982The motility of cultured procyclic forms of Trypanosoma brucei brucei ANTat serodeme derived from EATRO 1125 was greatly reduced when incubated in vitro with the haemolymph of Glossina morsitans morsitans at dilutions as low as 1:512 after incubation periods of 1-2 h at 27 degrees C.
