Molecular Screening of Plasmodium (Haemosporidia: Plasmodiidae) Parasites from Reptiles in Brazil

Journal of Parasitology, 2019
Hemosporidians are a monophyletic group of protozoan parasites infecting all terrestrial vertebrate orders. Although Plasmodium is the most studied genus within the Haemosporidia, this research effort is heavily biased toward mammal and bird hosts.

Effect of Plasmodium yoelii nigeriensis (Haemosporidia: Plasmodiidae) on Anopheles stephensi (Diptera: Culicidae) Vitellogenesis

Journal of Medical Entomology, 1998
Our previous studies demonstrated a significant reduction in the egg production and survival of Anopeles stephensi Liston infected with Plasmodium yoelii nigeriensis Killick-Kendrick. We investigated the physiological mechanism underlying the malaria-induced curtailment of reproductive fitness. Polyclonal antibodies were raised against An.

Spillover of avian haemosporidian parasites (Haemosporidia: Plasmodium) and death of captive psittacine species

Australian Veterinary Journal, 2018
Case reportDuring February 2014, a yellow‐tailed black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus funereus) and glossy black cockatoo (C. lathami) housed in aviaries on a property in Wamuran, Queensland, were submitted for postmortem. Histopathology and molecular diagnostics demonstrated the presence of Plasmodium sp. infection.

[Pathogenicity of hemosporidians (Sporozoa, Haemosporidia) of birds].

Parazitologiia, 1984
Ultrastructure of the cyst's wall was studied in monocercus type larvae of 5 species of the family Dilepididae: Dichoanotaenia tundra, Particterotaenia porosa, Platyscolex ciliata, Sacciuterina stellifera and Trichocephaloides megalocephala. In all examined cysticercoids the cyst's wall is of identical structure.

Fallisia Parasites (Haemosporidia: Plasmodiidae) from the Flying Lizard, Draco maculatus (Agamidae) in Thailand

The Journal of Parasitology, 1986
Plasmodium (Fallisia) siamense n. sp. was described from the flying lizard Draco maculatus (Agamidae) collected near Bangkok, Thailand. Parasitic in thrombocytes, it produces 18-64 merozoites in schizonts that are larger than the usually oval gametocytes.

[Leucocytozoa (Haemosporidia, Leucocytozoidae) as biological markers in population research on birds].

Parazitologiia, 1989
Data on the infection of birds with Leucocytozoon were suggested to be used for investigation of the structure of hosts' populations in the regions isolated by ecological barriers where breeding places of bloodsucking flies (Simuliidae) are absent. Conducted parasitological investigations have shown that when migrating through the Courland Spit birds ...
