Synthesis and Electrochemical Properties of Two-Dimensional Hafnium Carbide
We demonstrate fabrication of a two-dimensional Hf-containing MXene, Hf3C2Tz, by selective etching of a layered parent Hf3[Al(Si)]4C6 compound. A substitutional solution of Si on Al sites effectively weakened the interfacial adhesion between Hf-C and Al(Si)-C sublayers within the unit cell of the parent compound, facilitating the subsequent selective ...

Effect of HfC Content on the Elevated-Temperature Ablation Behavior of W-HfC Composites
The effects of HfC content on the ablation resistance of W-HfC composites were systematically studied. The oxy-acetylene flame ablation test was conducted at 2800 °C. Post-ablation samples were characterized via XRD, section morphology, and EDS.

Oxidation Behavior and Creep Resistance of Cast MC-Strengthened CoNiFeMnCr HEAs at 1100 °C
The reinforcement of cast Cantor’s-type high-entropy alloys by MC carbides and their effect on the hot oxidation behavior were investigated. Three equimolar CoNiFeMnCr alloys without or with carbon and with either hafnium or tantalum were elaborated ...

Hybrid HfC‐SiCN matrix for improved oxidation resistance of carbon fiber–reinforced mini‐composites
Hafnium carbide (HfC) is an ultrahigh‐temperature ceramic with high melting point, chemical stability, hardness, and wear resistance. However, its low fracture toughness and poor thermal shock resistance limit its structural applications in extreme ...

Micromachining of Hafnium Carbide
During this project, the microfabrication of Hafnium Carbide (HfC) was investigated. Multiple tools were considered and tested for their compatibility and effectiveness when working with HfC. The main method of choice for the machining of HfC thin films was Ion Beam Etching (IBE).
