(a) The outstanding lubricative properties of natural articular cartilage arise from a composite coating composed of HA, lubricin, and phospholipids at its surface. Notably, lubricin facilitates the enrichment of synovial HA onto cartilage surfaces, and HA complexes with phospholipids, a key component to maintain extremely low friction under high ...

Retina‐Inspired Bi‐Based Terahertz Photonic Neuromorphic Devices
Combined with effective band alignment and substrate engineering, bismuth materials are introduced to form terahertz photonic bio‐inspired devices with picosecond short‐term plasticity to enable multi‐scene visual perception. Thus obtained hardware through the terahertz optical neural network (THz‐ONN) demonstrates high recognition accuracy, providing ...

Improved Real‐Time Hail Damage Estimates Leveraging Dense Crowdsourced Observations
Severe hail storms are a leading cause of building damages in Switzerland, yet accurately observing hail using weather radar remains challenging. Opportunely, Switzerland benefits from a uniquely dense network of crowdsourced hail reports, providing an ...

Reconstructing hail days in Switzerland with statistical models (1959–2022) [PDF]
Hail is one of the costliest natural hazards in Switzerland and causes extensive damage to agriculture, cars, and infrastructure each year. In a warming climate, hail frequency and its patterns of occurrence are expected to change, which is why ...

MiR‐940 Suppresses Ferroptosis by Controlling Expression of Key Regulatory Genes
A CRISPR‐based screening identified miR‐940 as a critical suppressor of ferroptosis in cancer. By coordinating the downregulation of pro‐ferroptotic genes with the upregulation of GPX4, miR‐940 establishes a regulatory network that protects against ferroptosis and correlates with poor clinical outcomes in distinct cancer entities.

Inhibition of KDELR2 in a small fraction of tumor cells generates sustainable immunogenic cell death conditions within the tumor microenvironment. These conditions promote the regression of tumors in a T cell independent manner. During regression, macrophages prime T cells that subsequently provide systemic protection against recurrence. The potency of
