Quantifying Hail Damage in Crops Using Sentinel-2 Imagery
Hailstorms are a frequent natural weather disaster in the Canadian Prairies that can cause catastrophic damage to field crops. Assessment of damage for insurance claims requires insurance inspectors to visit individual fields and estimate damage on ...

Hail: Mechanisms, Monitoring, Forecasting, Damages, Financial Compensation Systems, and Prevention
Hail has long caused extensive damage and economic loss in places inhabited by humans. Climate change is expected to lead to different types of damage due to the geographic characteristics of each continent.

Simulation of the hail damage on regeneration and yield of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) [PDF]
The most common mechanical damage to soybean in the agroecological conditions of Serbia occurs after the appearance of hail, floods or due to damage from wild animals and insects.

Crop-Hail Damage in the Midwest Corn Belt [PDF]
Abstract Crop-hail damage in the ten Midwest corn belt states is examined during the period 1957–81. Estimates of crop losses due to hail are made from hail insurance data for each state and each significant crop in the region. The crop-hail losses are adjusted to reflect 1981 dollar values and 1977–81 cropping patterns.

The Hailpad Calibration for Italian Hail Damage Documentation [PDF]
Abstract After a synthesis of the characteristics of the hailpad used by the Central Office of Agrarian Ecology, Italy, the calibration method is described, including the formula, data and necessary techniques, together with the tables and more significant graphs. The method by which the energy index of a hailstorm is evaluated is also specified.

A Chi Distribution Model of Hail Storm Damage [PDF]
This paper addresses the pattern of damage, and investigates its properties, of a theoretical hail storm which gathers in intensity before subsiding, and which travels linearly across the landscape at constant velocity. We start by assuming a simpler model, that of a storm which does not move, restricted to having an uncorrelated binormal distribution ...

Hail Damage Across a Large Part of Iowa [PDF]
Last week was certainly an eventful week in terms of weather across the state. Unfortunately, in several of those heavy rainfall areas hail also occurred, adding a whole new dimension to our stressful crop conditions this year.

Update on Hail Damaged Grain [PDF]
The situation with the hail damage to crops in north central Iowa is becoming clearer. On Aug. 9, 2009 an intense storm travelled approximately 150 miles from western Sac and Ida counties to eastern Grundy County. The hail swath was about ten miles wide,

Hail Damage Detection: Integrating Sentinel-2 Images with Weather Radar Hail Kinetic Energy
Hailstorms represent one of the most damaging convective hazards for agriculture, yet quantifying their impacts at a landscape scale remains challenging due to their localized and short-lived nature. In this study, we combine weather radar parameters and
