Key Challenges for Commercializing Perovskite–Silicon Tandem Solar Cells

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This review discusses the scientific and technological challenges in advancing perovskite–silicon tandem solar cells (PSTSCs) from lab‐scale to commercial viability, focusing on long‐term stability, scalability, and economic feasibility. Key issues include intrinsic and extrinsic degradation factors, installation conditions, environmental impacts, and ...

Impact of Drizzle-Sized Cloud Particles on Production of Precipitation in Hailstorms: A Sensitivity Study

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2018
This sensitivity study examined the impact of drizzle on hailstorm characteristics and precipitation on the ground. A cloud-resolving mesoscale model with a two-moment bulk microphysical scheme is modified by introducing mixing ratio and number ...

“Do You Want to Continue?”—Coordinating the Closing of Conversations and Managing Face Concerns

open access: yesSymbolic Interaction, EarlyView.
This study investigates how participants manage the decision to end or continue their conversation when directly asked about their preferences. The dataset consists of 19 conversations where the researcher explicitly asked if the two participants wanted to continue their conversation, thus causing some potential interactional trouble for the ...

Trends in thunderstorm days, lightning activity, squalls and the environmental factors in Hong Kong

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
This study analyses trends in Hong Kong's convective weather using long‐term observer‐based and shorter‐term instrument‐based data. Annual thunderstorm days increased significantly by 1.9 days decade−1 in 1947–2024, notably in June–September, consistent with increasingly favourable warm‐season environments for thunderstorms.

Detailed Evolution Characteristics of an Inclined Structure Hailstorm Observed by Polarimetric Radar over the South China Coast

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2022
A hailstorm with an inclined structure occurred in the western part of the South China coast on 27 March 2020. This study investigates the detailed evolution characteristics of this inclined structure using the Doppler radar data assimilation system ...

Gender Empowerment and Climate‐Smart Agriculture: Insights and Implications for Achieving Gender Equity and Climate Resilience

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the effects of male and female empowerment, as well as gender empowerment inequality, on the adoption of climate‐smart agriculture (CSA) practices. Using a conditional mixed process model, we analyse survey data from 743 households across Henan, Shandong and Hebei provinces in China.

Leadership and the Virtue of Humanity: Conceptual Clarity, Systematic Review, and Future Research Agenda

open access: yesJournal of Management Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract Humanity – the virtue enabling meaningful human connection – is vital to the leadership we need to survive our polycrisis context. As a prerequisite to sustainable human community, the virtue of humanity is considered universal. It has been claimed as a ‘higher‐order virtue’, comprised of and enacted by – but irreducible to – a suite of ‘lower‐

Basis risk, social comparison, perceptions of fairness, and demand for insurance: A field experiment in Ethiopia

open access: yesJournal of Risk and Insurance, EarlyView.
Abstract Index insurance lowers agricultural risk but covers only covariate risks. Since farmers do not have complete insurance, they may develop mistrust of insurance when experiencing crop losses and not receiving payouts. Although recent innovations in remote sensing enable the provision of more complete insurance including coverage for ...

Hailstorm Detection by Satellite Microwave Radiometers

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Passive microwave measurements from satellites have been used to identify the signature of hail in intense thunderstorms. The scattering signal of hailstones is typically observed as a strong depression of upwelling brightness temperatures from the cloud

Simulation of hailstorm event using Mesoscale Model MM5 with modified cloud microphysics scheme [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2008
Mesoscale model MM5 (Version 3.5) with some modifications in the cloud microphysics scheme of Schultz (1995), has been used to simulate two hailstorm events over Gangetic Plain of West Bengal, India. While the first event occurred on 12 March 2003 and
