1.函館市郊外のトドマツ人工壮齢林で,1977～1989年のうち8年間,クマゲラの営巣を観察し幼鳥数と巣立日を明らかにした。また1989年には,営巣木や巣穴の形態を調べ,糞分析により幼鳥の食性を調べた。2.幼鳥数は2～4羽で,平均3.3羽であった。性比は1:1であった。3.営巣木はトドマツの生立木で,胸高直径は46～51cmであった。営巣木3本のうち,2本は巣穴側に,1本はそれとは反対側に傾いていた。4.巣穴は営巣木に1個で,巣穴の地上高は4.0～5.9mであった。巣穴の出入口は縦径が90～110mm,横径が70～90mm,奥行270～330mm,出入口下端からの深さ360～410mmであった。5.営巣木周辺の立木密度は594本/ha,基底面積は55.7m2/haであった。6 ...
