Abstract This study describes an ongoing intense earthquake swarm in the crust of the northeastern Noto Peninsula, Japan, that began around the end of 2019. Fluid movement related to volcanic activity is often involved in earthquake swarms in the crust. However, no volcanic activity has occurred in this region since the Middle Miocene (15.6 Ma).

Abstract During a volcanic crisis, high‐rate, localized deformation can indicate magma close to the surface, with important implications for eruption forecasting. However, only a few such examples have been reported, because frequent, dense monitoring is needed.

Abstract Arc volcanoes, created by magma generated from the dehydration of subducting slabs, show great variability in their sizes and along‐arc spatial distributions. In this study, we address a fundamental question, namely, how do subduction zones and volcanic arcs respond to the subduction of “atypical” oceanic lithosphere.

Abstract From June 29 to July 1, 2015, a phreatic eruption occurred in Owakudani, the largest fumarole area in Hakone volcano, Japan. In this study, an interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) time series analysis of the Advanced Land Observing Satellite‐2 (ALOS‐2)/Phased Array type L‐band Synthetic Aperture Radar‐2 (PALSAR‐2) data was ...

Abstract Phreatic and hydrothermal eruptions are small energetic explosive events that generally have few to no precursors and represent a considerable hazard in tourist and urban areas. At the Campi Flegrei caldera, these events have occurred at the Solfatara volcano and have likely occurred at the nearby Pisciarelli site, where the most powerful ...

Abstract Marapi in Sumatra is characterized by frequent short‐lived explosions and small eruptions (Volcanic Explosivity Index 1–2) and in the past 250 years, the volcano has erupted >60 times. Recent volcanic bombs and the presence of broadband seismic stations lead us to reconstruct the plumbing system of the volcano through an interdisciplinary ...

Episodic rifting and volcanism at Krafla in north Iceland: Radon (222) emission from fumaroles near Leirhnjukur [PDF]
From June 1978 until late 1980 radon emission from the Leirhnjukur fumaroles was monitored within the Krafla caldera of north Iceland where episodic volcanism is occurring.

Decades ago, Julian (J Volcanol Geotherm Res 101:19–26, 1994. https://doi.org/10.1029/93JB03129 ) proposed the lumped parameter model of non-linear excitation of an elastic channel vibration by fluid flow as a mechanism of volcanic harmonic tremor. Since
