The geothermal system of the Hakone volcano
Geothermics, 1970The isothermal map of the Hakone volcano at sea level shows that the geothermal area now 12 by 13 km in diameter is clearly related with the present volcanic activity in central cones. Four zones are recognized in the distribution of thermal waters.

Thermal structure and energy of the Hakone volcano, Japan
pure and applied geophysics, 1978The thermal energy balance and the temperature profile of the Hakone volcano are considered quantitatively. Across the Hakone volcano and its surroundings the heat flow values vary from 10-1 to 103 mW/m2, due to thermal conduction and mass flow involving volcanic steam and hot spring discharge.

Subparallel dikes are exposed on a new road-cut along the foot of the southeastern caldera wall of Hakone Volcano. The dikes are concentrated within a zone 1,915 m wide. Altogether 96 dikes trending generally from NW to SE are seen within a total length of the actual outcrops of 855 m measured at right angles to the trend of the dikes.

The 7th International Symposium on Recent Advances in Exploration Geophysics (RAEG 2003), 2003Hakone volcano is located in the northern part of Izu peninsula. It is well known as inactive volcano and hot springs resort. But sometimes there are earthquake swarms. There was big earthquake swarm in April 2001. Total number of earthquakes was 15,816 during April to October. The cause of this activity is not yet solved.
